Hi ladies and gents

My name is Paul.

I went on CD a while ago and lost about 4st but have had the worst year and unfortunately have put it all back on.

Now i cant face putting myself through that again and i would just prefer to go on a sensible diet which helps me eat healthily and has a consistent weight loss.

I know nothing about Slimming world and was hoping for some advice on clubs near me ( im in Farnham, Surrey), how the diet works and what sort of average weight loss i could expect?

I would really appreciate your help

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul welcome to Minis.

I have found SW to be a good diet. I was having consistent losses of 3lb a week. Guys tend to have larger losses.

SW offers magazines, an online subscription and classes so you can choose the method that suits you the best.

you should get lots of replies as alot of people on here do SW so good luck xx

Hi Paul

Personally I think slimming world is as near to normal healthy eating as you can get. I can't reccommend it enough. Funnily enough I was just explaining the plan to a friend of mine called Paul, who thinks he's going to give it a go but didn't want to give up his Friday night beer. So once I said he can still have that and count it in, he's really seriously thinking about it.

The thing that I like about SW the most is that you can have free foods even when you've run out of your allowance for the day, so you never need go hungry. You can snack when you want and basically just eat when you're hungry.

If you go to Slimming World - discover the amazing you you can put your postcode in and find out where and when your nearest classes are.

Sorry you've had a crappy year, hopefully this one will be better for you

Hi Paul.
I did CD and yes the results are amazing, but the moment you eat, you gain it back even quicker.
SW works if you stick to the plan 100% however the weight loss will not be anywhere as fast as CD and you have to expect that. You should loose on average 2lbs a week, which is a good steady healthy loss.

Good luck with your decision.

thanks ladies i appreciate your feedback, have had a little read on the website for slimming world and think i might give it a go.

Have also recently started doing 30 mins in the gym most lunchtimes so that combined with soemone monitoring my weight should result in a slow but steady weightloss.

I might even try to get my wife to join me as she has been saying she wants to lose some weight too.

How much is it by the way to go to the group meetings?

Thanks

It's £4.50 a week, but at the moment, membership is free to join. If you take a friend who joins (your wife) you will get a week free.

Good luck :D

its £4.50 each week plus the initial joining fee which at the moment is free. You can get a countdown which enables you pay an upfront amount and it works out that you get a week or teo (depends how many you buy) free.

You will love it Paul, this plan is so forgiving and doesn't deprive you of anything. Enjoy eating loads and loosing weight too. xxx

I just started this week, and honestly - its amazing! The reason I always give up on diets is because i feel deprived, and there is absoultey no reason to ever feel hungry or deprived on sw! Plus the support and ideas you get on here is great, its definately worth a go! good luck hun :) xxx

Hey Paul

I had about four stone to loose too, now about a stone. So three stone gone since September. That was pretty much sticking to it completely, just the occasional (maybe monthly?) day off eating whatever I wanted. When I did that, the plan allows you to pull it back that week and do extra healthy stuff in order to still got a loss that particular week.

Slimming World basically gives you a shed load of food that you can eat without restriction (potatoes, meat, pasta, fruit, veg), then a couple of healthy but slighly naughty things per day (milk, cheese, bread) and then the stuff you need to restrict (booze, chocolate, crisps etc).

There are a few versions you can do playing around with the above (red days where you cannot have pasta or potatoes, but can have unlimited meat and a four of healthy extra portions, green days where you cannot have meat but can have unlimited pasta and potatoes and a four extras or 'extra easy' where you have unlimited meat, potatoes and pasta but only two extras). It basically works well and does teach you the normal food, cooking thing. And you can legitimately 'cheat' by saving up your really bad stuff (eg booze, chocolate) or going off plan for a night whilst still keeping an eye on what's going on.

It's actually worth it I think and it's worked for me. You don't get anything like the losses you get on CD, none of this 8lb per week business: but you should see a 2-5lb loss per week in your first couple of weeks, slowing to a 2-3lb loss thereafter, right down to a 1lb per week loss as you get close to your target weight.

Anyhow, good luck with it all and let someone know if you've any questions.

Cheers

Thanks for all the info mate, unfortunately i have considerably more than 4 stone to lose so im in for the long haul lol

I would actually like to lose about 7 stone in total but im not worried how long it takes as long as it keeps going down and the diet isnt total torture...like cd for example

I am thinking about going to one tonight in Farnham, does anyone know if you have to phone in advance or can you just turn up on the night?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul

You can just turn up to a meeting.

The plan is excellent for eating LOADS. I've just had an enormous jacket spud, low fat cheddar, salad followed by a banana. I've already had toast, weetabix & 2 Muller Lights (the new chocolate ones). Oh yes, and 2 Alpen Light bars.

On Saturday I had SW chips, egg, bacon, 2 synned sausages, mushrooms. Yesterday I had a proper roast.

I'm rambling now. Basically, go to class and enjoy your food. xx

Just walk right into class and give 'em a big grin. Us ladies like to have blokes in the class you know ;)

Don't forget to post when you get back and let us know how joining and your first class went.

oh BTW.. I'm also in it for the long haul... another 7 stone to go for me too.

OMG i would never have guessed from your photo you had so much weight to lose hon.

You have a lovely face :)

So why is it you like having men in your classes then hon?

Paul

I'd definitely recommend SW. Last year I last 3.5 stones in 6 months before I had an operation and fell off the wagon. It's much more sustainable long term than CD.

I think that slimming world is good I lost just over a stone in a months with it :)

Thanks

Thanks :flirt2:

You can't tell from my head and shoulders shot because I look like an egg on legs LOL, much wider at the lower half than the top ;)

Why do I like blokes at class? cos they have a different outlook to the women and they're great to tease ;)

Did you join up last night?

Hi Paul... I would highly recommend SW. It really is the best "diet" ever. I don't like to use the word diet to describe it because it doesn't feel like one, and that makes it feel negative. I just love being on Slimming World.

Incidentally, if you have a lot of weight to lose, it's possible you could go to your doctor and get a GP referral to SW and they will cover the cost of your joining fees and the first 12 weeks meetings.
