Hi, can anybody please advise me. I am currently taking Citalopram for anxiety. I have got my doctors form signed and my doctor said that it is ok for me to do the diet, but my counsellor has further concerns about the drugs and will not allow me to start until she has spoken to the medical advisor to check that the drugs are ok. I have been planning to start the diet on new years day for the past month and I am gutted, as I have just been told I will now have to wait until Monday because the Medical Advisors are on Holiday. I was planning to use my hols to go through the Ketosis stage, prior to returning to work on Tues hopefully feeling great and full of energy.

I am not suffering from Depression and although the drugs I am on can be used to treat depression, in my case they are for panic attacks. Doing a bit of research I can see that the drugs are in a group known as SSRI's...

Does anybody have any advice, because I really do not want to wait until Monday because I am now mentally prepared... Thanks

Sorry to hear you can't start yet. Unfortunately I don't have any answers for you, but I guess the counsellor is wanting to make absolutely sure that the diet is safe for you.

Keep your chin up - you could start reducing your carb intake etc in preparation for the go ahead. There is some good advice on cambridge diet website about preparing for the diet, so maybe do that for a few days until it gets sorted out and then you may find you have less side effects going into Ketosis.

Good luck and keep motivated:):)

hi there :welcome: to minimins, sorry but ive no advice but hope its gets sorted out soon. im sure it will be fine especially since your doctor has signed the form :) try and not worry to much :hug99: there is a few cdc's on this site so one of them may see this and be able to help :)

Hi. Sorry about the medical issue. I know nothing about the drug but like people have said you can prepare for the diet. If you really want to be in ketosis for when you start work, you can adopt an Atkins like diet and that will put you into ketosis. However getting into ketosis shouldn't be very bad (symptoms wise) if you reduce your carb intake gradually. It's the carb withdrawals that make the process of getting into ketosis hard for some. All the best.

ok, thanks for support. What would I need to eat on my own to induce a Ketosis state until Monday so that I don't feel like poo when at work next week. I am guessing veg and meat only?

Help for you

Sorry to hear about your problem I take the same medication and had it ok'd by GP who specialises in mental health.. the only concern is if someone is depressed your mood can change on VLCD so it may make someone feel low, I suffer the same as you with anxiety but I have been fine, my GP asked to see me every four weeks to monitor. Good luck :)

Thats the frustrating thing. I have been cleared by the GP to go on the VLCD, yet its my counciller that will not give me the products until she has had confirmation from CD's own medical advisor.

Heya, if you want to do Atkins to get into ketosis you need to eat less than but in the region of 20g carbs a day - so that means no fruit, pasta, rice, bread etc. and only small amounts of green and white veg. Nothing with citric acid in. Generally you can have anything you like that is low carb, so meats, cheese, eggs (limited quantities as they do have carbs), that kind of thing.

It also means no alcohol, as with CD, it's very dangerous to drink alcohol when in ketosis. You should drink fluids like you would on CD - no fizzy drinks, just water, tea & coffee (with limited amounts of skimmed milk as it has carbs in) with sweetener but not sugar.
