LL newspaper article

Oh for goodness sake - it is QUITE clear that you should use yourself like a waterwheel and have water throughout the day - it's just obvious not to tip litre upon litre down at once... partly common sense, but also CLEARLY set out at the start of LL... yes, the more you drink the more you lose... i.e, sometimes I only manage 0,5 litres and don't lose as much as when I try and do the 3/4... but it's not a challenge and it doesn't change the fact that the body can' only accept so much at once.

RIP though - very tragic loss, but I wish people would stop pointing the finger at LL when her death had sweet F.A. to do with the programme. Grrr.

A x

I hate the DM so much.
They even admit in the VERY FIRST LINE that it was HER fault;
A mother-of-five who was desperate to lose weight drank herself to death when she took a liquid-based diet too far,

and yet still make the article anti-LL.
Once again, it just shows the ignorance of the masses when it comes to things like this, and how easy it really is to scare people with the media.

How's this LL's fault then? If she was stupid enough to drink that amoount of water in such a short time span then it's all her own doing!

It has absolutely nothing to do with LL. My llc has always warned us not to drink large amounts of water in a short space of time.
Bloody Daily Mail!!!!

The story is worth the paper its written on. Or less.

THere will ALWAYS be proponents and opponents of any diet.

ANd the dieter MUST assume some responsibility - and if they are foolish and take it to the extreme - while I am sorry for their loss - the onus (sp?) is on them, not LL.

Everything in moderation - patience the key.

Nothing is worth killin yourself for.

I got an email from my mother about this at work saying she was worried about me going on this as it could be dangerous.

My answer was along the lines of "Fireworks are dangerous when you hold them in front of your face. I'm not stupid."

Unfortunatly, if you don't listen to the advice you are given by people who know what they are talking about.

I do feel sorry for the lady. Unfortunately she may have thought drinking more would help the loss, or maybe she didn't drink her alotted amount and paniced it would affect it.... yes she was silly, but the desire to lose weight can make people desperate.

Full marks to SKY NEws - they reported on this this morning, and did not mention Lighter Life at all! JUst said she was on a high water/low calorie diet - which she then siad, "Seems reasonable"....and then went on about excess.

So - Kudos to them for not turning this into a LL witch hunt!!! Absolutely no mention of LL at all!! Bravo! :)

Finally somewhere see's sense x

I didn't read it as a whitch hunt for LL....in fact they make it clear it was the excess water in short space of time :sigh: People are always giving advice to glug as much water as possible if they have cheated to 'flush it out' on these boards

Anyway, my heart goes out to her husband and family on their loss....doesn't seem to be much sympathy on here for them either, but then she wasn't a member of this forum so no point in fawning over them eh?

Thunderthighs, sorry - but I think you are missing the point.

LL an other various VLCD often take the blame for the participants irresponsible use of the diet.

Yes, people here advise others to up their water. But NEVER has anyone on here said drink 4 litres in half an hour!!!!

It is sad - but people need to be responsible and use common sense when they undertake a diet like this.

They blame her death on the diet - where it is not the diet that killed her. That is why everyone gets upset and may seem a lack of sympathy. I am sure everyone here feels sorry for the familys loss. But that was not the point of the discussion.

I think its a low and unecessary shot to state that noone feels sympathy becuase she did not post here. (How do we know that anyway? ;)

Is it just me or did anyone else find this statement a bit unbelievable.

''came home from a LighterLife meeting after being given a ‘reward’ of powdered food for making good progress.''

The article in the Metro merely mentioned she was on LL but stated she drank too much water.

I think the moral of the story is people should know that too much water can be dangerous. It is common knowledge.

My sympathy to her family regardless of what happened!

I guess its all down to interpretation....the headline states:

Slimmer died in 'tragic accident' after drinking too much water during controversial diet.

The word 'controversial' to me reads as a negative comment.

Then...her husband states:

Yesterday her family criticised the diet firm.

Mr Henson, 40, said: ‘I would like to discourage any women from doing this kind of crash diet. Even if you are healthy like my wife was, these diets can still be risky.

‘Jacqui was told by the slimming consultant that the more water she drank the more
weight she would lose.

'It wasn’t made clear to her that you had to spread the drinking through the day.’

So, he blames the diet. Thats how I read it.

Good thing I do not read trash like the Daily Mail. I don't think controversial is necessary a negative word, I just think it invokes people to have an opinion.

I have to say though that I find it odd that only LL gets the bad rap, when there are quite a few other VLCD's out there.

Lets face it 18 months ago if someone told us we would live without food for 6 - 10 months what would we have said.

I'm surprised anyone reads the 'Daily Hate' to be honest...

It's all over the press now and yes, they are slating LL. In another red-top tabloid they've even rolled out Coleen Nolan who followed it for a while to slate it.

Whilst my condolences obviously go to the lady's family, to drink 8 pints of water in 2 hours is total madness.

It doesn't say how long she had been doing LL; I feel sure that had she been doing it for a while, she would know not to binge drink the water.

The problem is, some people cannot manage water over the day, then panic and think 'I'd better get my x litres in now'. I fear this is what she may have done.

and as usual, lots of people making comments how fat people should just eat less and exercise more. Hmmmm, do they not think we've tried that one already?!
My sympathies to the family for their loss but LL can't be blamed for this tragedy.
