Percentage of Carbs

just had a look and i cant either sorry took so long!!

THanks Cat - I will ask my LLC next week. I think I have really buggered up, and thats why I've put on a pound each week! DOH! I have been using an online weigh management site and it never occured to me that not ALL diets reccomend the same amount of carbs! I should KNOW that. Anyway - I think their reccomendations are more a low fat, rather then low carb - so while I have been striving to fill out the graphs in the right proportions, I think I have had too many carbs! WahhhhhhH!!!!!! lol

But I will make sure - at least I am finding things out before it gets too crazy...but its made me well angry at myself!! Grrr. :D

Thanks hon!!

bl did u ever find out the %of carbs we are meant ta have?
xx

Hiya, hope you don't mind me coming in on this. One of the recent topics we covered on my nursing course is about nutrition and we were told a healthy diet should be 55% carbs, so spot on BL. HTH :) xx

The thing I find - is what do you have if you can't have carbs? I mean this seriously.

I have porridge now often, for breakfast - and since doing that, by the time I have a piece or two of fruit, and get to dinner, carbs already seem high for the days ratios.

Can't we manage rice, or pasta, or athing like that, AND cereal for brekkie??

This is what confuses me - if we don;t eat carbs then what. Always piles of veg? Is that what ou are doing LL? I jst feel like there s not much variety, and that maybe I am missing something out.

If not, and this is the way we have to eat to go forward, so be it - just not sure.

I'm stalking you BL :D

I aim for 55% carbs, 30% fat, 15% protein, though often go above on the protein because it keeps me more satisfied.

My porridge concoction (porridge with yoghurt and fruit...altogether in the bowl) in the mornings gives me exactly 55% carbs for that meal. I then go on to have carbs, protein and fat at every meal.

I wonder if you are confusing percentage with total amount. Excuse me if I'm wrong.

Remember 55% for that meal, doesn't mean 55% for the whole day.

if we don;t eat carbs then what. Always piles of veg?
And of course, veg has carbs :D Confusing innit. But don't forget protein and fat.

its all so bloody confusing!! im finding it hard too keeping my carbs down lowish....and im not even back on full foods yet!! aaarrrgggg!!! lol

Cool! A stalker!! :giggle: :D

Thanks, I am clear on the 55% per day. I pulled up my reports for the last 2 weeks, and I have actually been under it quite often - generally around 53%. Then there were some days that were shockingly high!! 100!! On one day!!! DOH!

For the past few weeks I have been diligently tracking everything and its helping me to see where I might be falling down.

Its so much to learn. After a lifetime of not giving 2 seconds thought to what goes in my mouth, and fuled my body - its just a bit overwhelming. BUt I am getting it. I;ve certainly never been this conscious about it, in my life!!

Catz, it IS confusing!! Does my head it somedays - just think I am getting it,and then I find I am all confused all over again!!

But it is working.....I just completed ROute to Management tonight - and my "final" weigh in has me just 2.5 pounds over what I started RTM at, so chuffed to bits with that result.

We'll get it - one day at a time. Soon the mud will be clear. :D

Cool! A stalker!! :giggle: :D

Or damn...it's that woman again :D
Thanks, I am clear on the 55% per day.

That's good, cos it caught me out once. I remember having a breakfast that was something like 70% carbs and thinking that it meant I couldn't have any more carbs that day. D'oh.

Okay, now I am confused :D 100? 100g or 100%. Isn't 100% impossible? yet 100g is low carb. My target is about 270g in carbs. You may be on less calories than me, but that's still a lot of difference.

But it is working.....I just completed ROute to Management tonight - and my "final" weigh in has me just 2.5 pounds over what I started RTM at, so chuffed to bits with that result.

I'm not at all surprised. Knew you'd do this. Genius

Hmmm, maybe its grams. lol oops. I will have to look at the report again - they show a break down of each meal, with numbers, and then there is a pie-graph for the day showing what percentage of your calories came from protein, carbs and fats....the 55/30/15 split. The graph is generally averaging about 53%, but in the list of foods/meals, it showed 103, so must be grams.

lol - I am hopeless when it comes to this side of things - but I'm getting there. :)

*sigh*

Thought I would meander in here and see what life is like on the over side of foundation.

I think I'll just wait until I get there or I might start panicing!!

I can see how some people do not complete RTM!

I think KD knows you well BL :p:)

LOL, probably not, but our journeys have been quite similar. The ups and downs, the concerns and the joys. I'm just remembering the confusion I had at one time about the percentages :D

This is a great time to check and double check. A year from now, it might sound a bit daft if BL comes back and says "I've been reading it all wrong". It's a great time to ask questions, even if you think you are doing it right BL :)

Okay, so I did Cambridge, not LL, but we still have a refeed type of thing. I didn't particularly enjoy it. In fact, I sulked rather a lot throughout...but if I had to do Cambridge again, there is no way I wouldn't do the refeed.

Jumping off a VLCD into your own plan is scarier IMO.

Besides, this percentage thing hasn't anything to do with refeed. It's what everyone should be aiming for (assuming they aren't planning to low carb for the rest of their lives). It's normal healthy eating. After eating all the wrong stuff for years, then following a VLCD, it's really good to find out what you should have really done in the first place :D

So, don't panic. It's a challenge, but one that is well worth while :)

Ditto KD - I seem to say that alot!

xx

I started learning about percentages when I started using an on-line tracker for food/exercise, etc.

What confused me, is we have been "lo carb" and have had "lo carb" ingrained in our thoughts, when I saw I was eating 50% carbs, I panicked and thought I had it all wrong!

KD< I already feel a bit of a muppet waiting so long in RTM to ASK about some of these things - god, if I waited a year I'd be a First Class Muppet! BUt the first few weeks, it all went so smoothly, I thought I was 'getting it', but with the introduction of carbs and my weight bouncing up and down like a yo yo, I got a bit scared!! :D

It is confusing Em, but you will get there, and you will get it. JUst ask a lot of questions if you need to.

xx
