VLCD

I don't have any intentions of going on one of these type of diets, although I'm not knocking anyone who has gone down that route. I am just intrigued as to how they work.

It confuses me a as lots of people say that if we eat too little our metabolism slows right down and we don't lose any or very little weight. At least that seems to be the general consensus. Yet there are other people who lose heaps of weight because they're on VLCD's. And people suffering from anorexia eat next to nothing and and just get thinner and thinner, I know that from suffering with it myself.

Sorry If i'm being an idiot but was just wondering if anyone who understands this could explain it to me because it's something that has always bugged me. That there are two pieces of conflicting advice yet they both make sense and both seem to be true

I can only talk about Cambridge Diet. CD is nutrionally based to provide enough vitamins, minerals and calories to prevent the body from going into starvation but with just over 400cals per day the body is using its own fat stores to provide energy. The body does this by going into ketosis.
