How does one join WeMITTS?

mindless

Hair today - gone tomorra
Hello,

I have hardly ever entered the WeMITTS forum and I have to say I don't know why as darlings, one has such a lot of weight to lose and gosh dammit, I surely do mean it this time.

Maybe its because I thought this was a women only zone - if it is, I'll push off - if not, is there a signing up process or do you just have to post a thread saying I'm fat, got loads to lose and I mean it this time.

If so, then please take the below as a application to join.

Dear WeMITT Forum,

I was looking throught the Minimins website this morning and came across a position with yourselves that I think that I am emminently qualified to fill.

I have the talents and attributes you are looking for in that I am morbidly obese with a BMI of 47.2. I have over 11 stone (or 154 pounds) to lose before I reach what is considered my ideal body weight - although I do have big bones.

I have tried many different regimes in the past with temporary success and then equal or greater failure and generally feel as useful as a piece of dog doos with a confidence level to match.

I am however, starting LighterLife on 8th of January and this time I really mean it. With the help of this forum, I am sure that I could be a great success and on top of meeting all the requirements, I feel that I will also bring much positive contribution to your efforts that I will help to enhance the quality of the organisation and activity.

Please feel free to examine my posts on other forums to judge for yourselves whether I indded be able to contribute as I have stated.

I trust that this application finds favour with the selection panel and I look forwards to hearing your decision, in the not so distant future.

Yours faithfully

Mr M Mindless

Hi Mindless

Anyone can join the WeMITTS. You appear to have all the necessary qualifications! You want to lose weight and you mean it this time!

We are having a meet up in Portsmouth on 27th January, why not try to come and join us? Should be great fun! There is a thread somewhere on here for the meet up, and it will get a bit busier nearer the time when arrangements are finalised!

Welcome to the wemitts Mindless!
This is a fab little 'sub-group' and everyone here knows the extra issues involved in having lots of weight to lose. After most people have reached the finish line and are settling into maintenance, we're still plugging away and have to dig extra deep!

At my heaviest, I had 12st to lose: I weighed 21st 12lb and at 5' 2" had a bmi of 56. I could barely walk more than a few yards before that familiar ache in the lower back would start and the rest of my walk would be done with my teeth gritted trying to cope silently with the agony. My health started seriously deteriorating and it was time to 'pay the piper' so to speak with all the abuse my poor body had endured. I developed type II diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Basically, I was committing slow suicide.

I never, ever gave up though. We'd go for frequent walks and I'd never admit I was in so much pain. In my photobox pics (link below), the photo of me at my heaviest in the white T-shirt was taken at Brimham Rocks in North Yorkshire; one of our favourite places when we lived up North.

So you can imagine how chuffed I was to be able to take part in the Junior Great South Run in October (pics also in the photobox). Even though it was only a 'baby run' at just one and a half miles, I would never in my wildest dreams imagine that I could have even attempted it before Cambridge. That said, I hated every minute and doubt I will ever take part in a run again - I wouldn't mind taking part in a cycle ride though ... there's one in this area some time in 2007. Thirty one miles so I'd need to train but I love cycling so I'd be more likely to stick to it.

I digress.

My advice to you would be not to focus too much on the bigger picture: the whole 11st business. Instead, set yourself mini targets - and not all purely weight related ones. For example - I had the usual 'first stone', then other ones such as 'into the next stone bracket down', 'under 200lb', 'next dress size down' and others such as 'can walk into town in 15 minutes without sweating' ;)

Give a thought to things you might like to have a go at as you become lighter - things you couldn't do before or have never done before: horse riding, ice-skating, parachuting, scuba diving ... I'm serious - what's the point of losing weight if you do just the same as you always did? Try new things - new experiences - push yourself: we all deserve to be participants in life and not just specatators.

There are several of us wemitts talking about the possibility of doing one of those charity treks ... the Great Wall of China or The Inca Trail or something. Maybe you might be interested in considering joining in if we get it off the ground?

Anyway, this welcome post has turned into a novel so I'll stop here before you fall asleep: great to have you aboard - post often (there's NOTHING you can't discuss amongst the wemitts - we know about all the trials and tribulations associated with being very overweight).

Buckle up Mindless - you're about to embark upon the trip of your life!! ;)

Many thanks Debbie for your kind words

I kinda like the interim targetting and have some in mind (depends on my starting weight !!!!)

350lbs
first stone gone
second stone gone
300lbs
20stone

etc

Also - the charity trek thing sounds a great idea - but both of thos are up and down so need to really get this weight off and then get fit.

so 2010 sound good? LOL

There isn't really an amount 'engraved in granite' laura but generally speaking, most people who join have (or have had) in excess of six stones or more to lose. This sort of reflects the fact that, on a VLCD, you'd be SSing for half a year or more and even longer using more conventional methods.

We aren't in any way minimising the struggles encountered by people with less than that to lose but we just want to recognise that people who are in the 'morbidly obese' category encounter particular issues that others often aren't even aware of.

If I mention wing mirrors in car parks, toilet cubicles, fixed restaurant seating, aircraft seatbelts, theatre seats and shoe laces ... and you can empathise with the problems associated with those things, you're probably in the wemitt category! :)

Methinks you are going to be in for a rather pleasant shock when you see how fast this thing is going to happen mindless!! :)

Your interim goals sound fab - can't wait to see you tick them off!
