Am New!!

Bijoux

Fat Fighter
Hi everyone. I started exercising lots since August and have managed to lose about 30lbs. I haven't shifted a dress size as yet so am getting slightly demotivated. I can see the loss in my clothes but they're not getting too big. I am still a size 22 and am aiming to be a size 16 for Christmas .... Will it ever happen? :(

Blimey, you have done incredibly well with just exercising. I guess you have been watching what you eat too.

Typically, with every stone lost, a dress size goes. Your clothes must be "shrink to fit" and just keep getting smaller with you - or are they elasticated or something which means that you don't notice that they are getting a little too big :D

I am sure you will have tried clothes on in clothes shops - but if not, that might be worth a try.

Welcome to minimins and good luck

LRO xx

Hi and :welcome:. Well done on your loss so far! Don't get demotivated, stay strong and positive - think of the January sales! - I'm sure you'll notice the need to drop down a dress size soon.

welcome to minimins. Good luck on your weight loss journey. You've done so well already, don't be disheartened. Keep on doing what your doing and you'll reach your goal.

How are you managing to lose so much weight in a week?

@sylvie86: jax123 is most likely on a VLCD (very low calorie diet) such as the Cambridge Diet or LighterLife (which I am on)

We only have around 500 cals a day from the special foodpacks provided, we do not eat any conventional food at all, just 4packs and at least 2 litres of water a day.
As a result, the body gets most of it's energy from burning fat (a mode called "Ketosis"), resulting in a very quick loss of large amouts of weight (I've been doing it for 4 days and already lost at least 6lbs already). It also eliminates hunger almost 100% (slightly different for individuals though I think), and is the perfect opportunity for you to really see what your bad eating habits are, why you relate to food in the way you do, and what you can do to change that for the long term.

Sorry if you knew all that! :)

Not until I stumbled across this site. I didn't even know VLCDs exist. I have looked up the Cambridge Diet and spoken to one of the counsellors just this evening and she said she would send me all the paperwork. I need to get my GP to look through it though ... fingers crossed that goes well.

It sounds really hard though, plus can you exercise when you are on a VLCD?

It's not advised that you do anything to strenuous, so the gym is probably off limits, as you have no "immediate" energy from digested food or Glycogen stores in the muscles, so if you overexert yourself, you probably are going to faint.

Walking is still good, I've walked a few miles every day so far as well as my usual stuff at work, and I've been fine.

but I certinaly wouldn't do anything with weights or resistance training while on a VLCD, it's just not worth the risk, your body is being put through enough as it is.

As for it being hard, I think it all depends on your state of mind.
To me, trying to eat less each day and forcing myself to eat apples instead of the toffee crisp I really want, is hard.

not eating anything, and as a result never feeling hungry, is far easier from my point of view.
But then as I've said before, I'm very much an "all or nothing" person, so giving up food completely to me didn't feel like a hardship, it felt like I had lost a great burden.

I was asking as I have gym membership. But will try and freeze it for 3 months and give the VLCD a go and see where am at in 3 months time. I need to lose over 7 st which is alot but I've seen stories of people who have lost as much as 2 st a month at the beginning. Am getting really motivated now, hopefully I will be started in a week or two. I will let you know how it goes.

Best of luck with it all then Sylvie, be sure to keep on here, especially when you start, this place is a great source of inspiration and motivation :)

and sure, some people can and do lose upwards of 2 stone in the first month (i personally have lost 6lbs in my first 3 days, probably 7 or 8lbs by now, day 4) and of course, it's most likely that the more you have to lose, the quicker you will see results in the beginning.
