I absolutely love Christmas!! I love the carols the presents the parties ect!! I am on day 55 of lighterlife and feel proud that I have made it this far. I have been really strong up until now. I felt that I was going to continue over Christmas but the thought is making me really miserable. I have my meeting tonight where we are discussing christmas. I don't know what to do. I feel like just having a week off.
What is everone doing and how are you coping??
xx

Hi Stardreamer,
First of all well done for getting to day 55 :D

Have a chat with your counsellor tonight as you say - she'll advise you as to what your options are....

If you do decide to break of, just be aware that for some people it can be very hard to get back into abstinenace after having eaten.

Good luck and let us know how you get on:p

Aww, honey - don't feel miserable about abstaining over Xmas.

I know it's not the easiest thing in the world to do - I did it myself last year - and it isn't much fun when it looks like everyone else is having a brill time BUT just think how you will feel in early Jan, having lost weight when everyone else you know will have put on loads!!!

That's worth the sacrifice now - and it's just a few days out of your life.

Hope you feel better soon, hun and manage to enjoy all the non-food related festivities!

where is the rule book that says you have to eat to enjoy the things you just said you love?

carols ..... well you can't sing with your mouth full! and its probably a bit hard to open pressies and eat at the same time, and parties are all about laughter, dancing, and spending time with people you like/love.

ok so I have simplified it a bit, but really I have come to realise that attatching food to every celebration is one of the things that brought me to a place where I was over 4 stone overweight!

There are a few threads further down about how some of us are feeling re christmas and coping strategies, have a look and it may help you.

The big thing for me is health, I was destined for diabetes (after having it through pregnancy) as well as all the traditionally known risks of obesity. I am imagining my health in a gift wrapped box as my gift for christmas. At the end of the day I could choose to eat, but it may undo some of the work I have done and if nothing else it will delay my triumph when I eventually get down to my target.

The other thing to remember is, almost everyone GAINS weight over christmas, I want this to be the first christmas I LOSE weight over christmas. Our LLC said after all the festivities were over she had lost 9 pounds! at the end of the day she could have gained that, and in theory set herself back 6 weeks in total. I don't want that to happen to me.

Lots and lots of people on here have said the regretted it when they did eat as it is much harder than anyone thinks to get back on the wagon.

Best of luck whatever you choose, but for me I think it would be a mistake.

Thanks for all your replies. Just got back from my meeting and christmas was discussed. I feel really positive now. I did tell the group that I wanted to have a glass of champagne in the morning to celebrate Christmas as it is a tradition BUT I have decided not to. The cousellor said that if I did then get over it and move on from it. She advised me not to but left it up to me. I did not want to tell the group this but it was the child in me wanting that. I wanted to keep it secret and then be deceitful.
Another massive incentive was that my BMI has gone down from 30.3 to 24.9!!

This is the biggest lesson of all!!!!! Food and celebration s DON'T have to go hand in hand! My lesson from LL was this. The food is now secondary to the people and the occasion!!

What fantastic posts Mags and GeorgiasMum! I couldn't have put it better myself.

I have learned, from being on LL for nearly four months now, that it is the PEOPLE, PLACE, and EVENT which gives me the most pleasure, food/drink is secondary and incidental.

That's why I will be sticking to the LL programme 100% until I'm ready to move to Management.

In the past FOOD was my motivation (what a shame) and no event was complete unless I'd 'eaten everything until the plate/bowl/box/buffet table was empty' regardless of whether I was actually hungry or not. I NEVER want to go back to those sad days.

Stardreamer - have you discussed doing a Thought Record whenever you feel that you want to eat something? It will help you focus on the REAL reason you want to eat.

Having said all that CONGRATULATIONS on your super achievements to date - you are so close to your goal!

I wish you the best of luck this Christmas and for 2007.
