Exercise and CD

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been asked a dozen times but couldn't find a thread. I was exercising nearly every day before starting CD. Decided to take a break for the first week of CD, so should start back in gym tomorrow. My worry is, what impact will this have? I usually work out quite intensely, often burning off 500-600 calories. Can I still do this, given that then I'll be on negative calorie intake? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. xxx

You need to suck it and see with exercise ,you are not having enough calories to do to much .Take notice of your body take it easy and see how you feel .May sound odd but too much exercise can slow your weight loss down as your body will feel as if its not getting enough to sustain its self and hold on to everything and so losses muscle (think this is correct but some one will put me right )

Hi hun, like you I'm seriously into exercising and that was one of my first questions when I contacted my CDC. She advised me to avoid it until I was definitely in ketosis, and then just see how I feel when I started back at the gym. You just have to listen to your body. You'll be okay to go back, but you'll probably find that you'll need to cut down on your reps and/or lower the weight. I found that I could do the same amount of cardio, but with one less on the resistance level. The only real adverse affect I've noticed is that it takes me longer to recover afterwards and my muscles ache everytime (like they do after I've had a longish break). But you'll be okay to go back I think as you were already exercising before you started the diet. Good luck xx

Thanks for the advice. I'm just so worried about all the sagging skin I'm going to be left with and want to keep up my routine for that. My stomach is just awful, it hangs down so much, and I think surgery may be the only option but praying somehow that exercise will work.

Personally i'd recomend 810, I started exercising on ss+ but was absolutely dead after and feeling ill but on 810 im fine and losing as well as before. The cals are still extremely low so shouldnt affect ketosis and you will be burning off the extra carbs so effectively be the same as ss if you were say burning 400 cals a day. Personally I think its a healthier way of going but im no expert on Cd or excercise so speak so you cdc.
As for the skin be patient, ive lost a lot off my stomach, was huge but slowly it has started firming and they say it can take 6-12 months after youve finished to see skin result, im not expecting perfection but it will improve as you go, plenty of water and exercise as you go and you'll help.

Thank you for the great advice, that's reassuring about the skin. I'm not expecting perfection either but an imporvement would be great! Went to the gym this morning, and actually felt quite weak. Couldn't do my usual workout so I'll discuss with my CDC possibility of doing the 810 plan.

good to read this thread. i just started Jazzercise this week. 2 1hr sessions (of aerobice and muscle toning moves) a week burning off between 400-500 calories each session. i'm doing SS and sooooo worried it might slow my loss but i am worried about sagging skin too. already got sagging skin on my boobs and have only lost 3st. still got 7st to go!!!

if i have a small loss on sat i will be gutted!!! x

hope your loss isn't bad Gem, I am sure it will be fine. I really want to get back to the gym properly as I want to help my skin, but more importantly I want to get fit! I feel it's really important, I have joined the gym but only been using the pool and spa at the mo, so really need to get going!

I agree with badger, check out the 810 Plan if you want to work-out because your muscles need protein to aid recovery, and intense workouts are not really reccomended on a vlcd. There is protein in the packs I know, but if you are exercising like you are I really think you need some extra protein for your muscles to burn.

I wouldn't worry also about it affecting your weight loss either. Even without exercise we all have sts weeks sometimes and in the long run you will be much better off for it. The way I see it muscle earns its keep in that it burns more calories at rest.
