Mix-a-mousse

Laugh in the face of food
Hiya, last week my CDC asked if I wanted to try some of the Mix-a-mousse and I said I'd think about it first. Mostly cos I'm not sure exactly what is it and what you do with it. I'm a dim sometimes, so can anyone enlighten me and let me know whether it's worth it. Oh and the cost, cos I forgot to ask - see I am dim! Thanks xxx

Mix a mousse turns a shake pack into a mousse. Theres a knack to getting it right!

The pack has 15 servings and the RRP is £4.15

You are allowed one serving per day.

It is not suitable for vegetarians as it is gelatine - a pork derivative. :)

Thanks for that, might give it go, I'm not veggie so it'll be ok. Just fancied a change of texture. Prob won't like it but worth a go.

If you just want to try it out, you can get gelatine from shops for £1 ish, it takes a lil more preparation, but I always used to do it that way because I loath paying more for something just because it's convenient

Tell me if you want to know how to do it with normal gelatine :)

I've actually got some normal gelatine in the cupboard I think, would you mind giving me an idiots guide to doing it with normal gelatine? Chers hun x

Boil the kettle, put 100mls boiling water in a bowl (plastic is good.)
Add half a sachet of gelatine and stir until it's ALL dissolved.
Add your pack and whizz with a blender until it's all mixed up.
Add a few ice cubes and stir with a spoon until it's almost set (if the ice cubes melt too quickly, add more.) then take the ice cubes out and put it in the freezer for 10 mins to finish setting.

Voila! Mousse :D it sets a bit firmer with gelatine than with mix a mousse, but I liked it like that anyway :D

You can use gelatine to make jelly with the water flavourings too. And if you use half a sachet of gelatine to make 250mls jelly, and half a sachet to make mousse, and pour the mousse on top of the jelly, then you get trifle :D (sort of.)

For jelly:

Boil the kettle (again) and pour 450mls boiling water into a bowl.
Add gelatine and stir until it's all dissolved.
Add water flavouring (I use summer berry, almost a full teaspoon) and colouring if you like (I won't eat it if it's not red!)
Again, add ice cubes until it's almost set, then fish them out, but this time leave it in the fridge, since it doesn't matter if you leave it for longer than 15 mins.

Then grab a spoon and enjoy :D
I'm not on CD anymore but I still love my jelly, it's much better than the sugar free stuff you buy in shops.

It's exactly the same as mix-a-mousse, but with normal gelatine you need to dissolve it in boiling water.

Aha! You can get Vegegel (from supercook) but I don't know how it works.
I think it was Bunnyg who tried it with vegegel but I can't remember how it went or anything.

I would imagine it would still work, but it has different instructions doesn't it?

Jennikay you're a star, I'm going to give these both a go at the weekend. Need to buy more gelatin cos mine was seriously out of date  (2006 - oooops). Will let you know how I get on.

PS I know what you mean about only eating it if it's red tho, gelatin doesn't look very appetising!

Hehe, I always used to say to my CDC, it's just not summer berry unless it's red :D

I never tried the orange water flavouring though, so I have no idea what it's like as a jelly either, but summer berry is very nice :D

just found this thread and i'm so happy! I made a mouse today, i used mix a mouse but will buy gelatine and try that too, so i dont have to spend as much when it runs out :D

choc mouse and fruit jelly! all i need now is cream! guess i could make a vanilla too and use half and half!

I love mix a mousse, always cocked up with Gelatin, would go like rubber!!!

Strawberry and Choc mint are my Fav mousses.

I do mine with a hand blender for 1 min 30 seconds to make it really fluffy :D

Oooh, yum - I'm just thinking about a layer of jelly, then a layer of choc mousse, then a layer of vanilla mousse....

I'm going to ring my CDC I think :D

I finally got my hands on the mix-a-mousse on Monday and I love it!!! :bliss:I tried to make the Summer Fruits jelly too but used too much water, and was slightly put off by the colour (gonna have to get some red food colouring).:eat: I can't wait for later when I can have my chocolate mousse, yum.

I love this thread, its like a cake thread without the guilt! lol.

yummy - will defo get vanilla next time now!! must get those flavours.

I noticed one was a veggie one, is that like for stock or something??

Vegegel is just gelatine for vegetarians.
(Cause gelatine is made from pigs or cows.) :)

On a side note, I have to say you look gorgeous in that photo in your siggy msblonde :D I love your hair!
