addictions

i`m struggling with why i`m always addicted to something.
it was eating when young, then i started smoking, gave it up & started eating.
this went on for years, now i dont smoke or eat, but am addicted to chewing gum.
i`ve also got a problem with spending and when i start exercising i do it too extreme until i`m too tired and go back to the spending.
i think out of all of them the chewing gum is the least damaging, so i`m happy to stick to that for now.
but is there any addictors??? that have overcome all and are now addiction free.
is it hereditary, my mum says my father was exactly the same, sticking with alcholism as his last, or is it just the way he`s brought me up. or am i just trying to blame the problem on someone else?

Whether it's hereditary is very contraversial. I have a similar problem with getting addicted to things easily and I like to think it's hereditary as it makes me feel so much better about myself :D

I have a sneaking suspicision that I might be rubbish at making sensible choices when it comes to looking after myself, but would prefer to pretend that it isn't my fault and so only read websites that support the hereditary theory :D

have ordered cbt for dummies to try and sort myself out, i`m hoping to do this before i get to target, really dont want to be yoyoing with my weight anymore.
