Indigestion

Hi everybody,
Last night I had horrible indigestion and pains in my upper abdomen. The pain was mainly in my esophagus and radiating to the middle of my back. It was really quite uncomfortable for a long time and sometimes even v.painful.
Then this morning, about 2 litres of water into the day, I burped (sorry ladies) and a load of acid came up with some water. It was horrible.
Can anybody make any suggestions as to what I could take to relieve these symptoms without blowing it?

Hi Lynne,
I'm not sure what you can take but that sounds exactly the same as me the other week. I suffer with acid refulx occasionally. Have you ever suffered? You can probably take gaviscon or something like that but hopefully a cdc will be along soon that can help more

Hope it goes away soon hun, its not nice!

xx

try zantac or gavilast. there ranitadine and should calm it for up to 12 hours a time.

if its still bad see your gp they can prescribe omeprazole that reduces the amount of acid you produce.

both me and my wee girl are on omeprazole for reflux and i find it works brill

Thank you so much.
I can get hold of omeprazole but will it have any effect on my doing CD. This weightloss is so important to me that I dont want to jeapordise it in any way.
I have had it in the past, but nothing as painful as this.
Lets hope a CDC comes along in a min to help me so I can take something!

Hi Lynne, I take omeprazole regulalry for refux and it hasn't affected my weight loss but I'm sure a CDC might be able to find out for us.

I also take omeprazole for the reflux and it hasn't affected my weight loss. All it does is reduce the amount of acid you produce in your stomach.

You can use gaviscon or rennies.

Also worth giving mint tea a try :)

I cant beleive this thread!!!! My husband called an ambulance tonight about 6pm. One minute I was fine and then next pain in my upper abdomen and under my breast bone. Then after about 10-15 mins I passed out. Hubby thought I was having a heart attack!!! But they tested everything and it was all ok. She said indigestion straight away. She said I passed out because I wasnt breathing properly because of the pain. Ive never had it before, so i had a few gulps of gaviscon and after about hour and half it just passed. I was so scared though.

oh you poor thing sian, I hope you are feeling better now. I know how you must have felt because i still feel pretty yuck!
If I hadnt have had that burpy episode I dont think I would have realised it was acid refulx that was causing the pain.

Thank you to everybody for the advice. I will be having some more rennies tonight and get hold of some omeprazole tomorrow.

Poor you. Just wondering...did they give you a scan?

I don't want to be a scaremonger or drama queen but I had the same thing last night. I was bent over double and couldn't breathe but it was like stabby pains in stomach/diaphragm etc. It ended up passing (with a lot of burping/farting later) a few hours down the track but OMG never experienced anything like it in my life. It happened after porridge..... I wasn't a major fan of it to start with and now I HATE it!! Hopefully I'm not wrongfully blaming the porridge but seen a few peeps mention these symptoms lately and I don't think it's a coinkidink.... but I'm also one for conspiracy theories as well so take that opinion with a grain of sugar!

I dont think its the porridge, because I had it before then.
I'm hoping my stomach will get used to the intensity of the soups/shakes etc, because I think that is what it must be, also I used to cram loads of unhealthy food into my stomach and now i dont, My stomach is probably over producing acids etc for the amount of food (shakes) im consuming.
Hoping today is a bit less painful, it still feels like I have something wedged in my esophagus and when I drink anything it feels as if the fluid is forcing past something. If it doesnt get any better with the omeprazole i will go to the docs but NOTHING will make me stop CD.
Sorry you had that experience Sleek, hopefully it was just a blip and it wont come back.

Not wanting to worry anyone but could it be gallstones rather than indigestion? I used to get terrible attacks which the doctor diagnosed as indigestion. It was so bad one night my husband took be to casualty but they said it was indigestion too. I knew it wasn't that - it was so painful and I used to bring up acid/bile (not very pleasant!). I kept going back to the doctors and was sent for a scan - found out I had gallstones and had my gallbladder out the next week. Never had a problem with "indigestion" since!

Btw - wasn't on CD when all this happened.

Ohhh crikey, that was horrible for you. The pain isnt low enough down for gallstones. And...... shhhussshhh dont tell my tummy, but I think the omeprazone has calmed it down a bit...... shhhhhhuuuushhhhh.......dont wake it up.
lol Lynne x

I think its gone, it was really painful and was a bit scary but Yipeeee its gone. Thanks to the omeprazole (never know if I am spelling that properly lol) I will keep taking it for the rest of the week and then try it without it for a while and see if it comes back.
Thanks for all the help everybody xxxxx
