Did anyone feel a bit daunted when they sold/threw all old clothes out???

I have kept 1 pair of trousers for photographic purposes and either thrown or ebayed the rest tonight, and I am so daunted by it, feeling weird about it all but Im not sure why!!

Can anyone help please, I know I am a nutter and rarely ask for help but this has really got to me tonight!

Like you, I kept just ONE pair of my big trousers (a size 30) and I got rid of the rest. Some I gave to charity and the rest I put on Ebay (still gradually feeding it all through!). So far I've made a couple of hundred quid (big stuff is VERY popular on Ebay). I paid for a year's gym subscription with some of the proceeds (poetic justice).

It's daunting letting go of the past though isn't it. There were times I thought 'shall I hang onto just one pair in a size 20 just in case' . It's the insecure side in us I think.

And no - I haven't hung onto any in a size 20 ... I'll just have to make damned sure I don't ever need them! :)

Daunted, yep thats how I feel, Its like, that was me, and I am throwing me away.

Silly really, and I think when they have gone then Ill feel so much better but just right now its daunting.

Thanks RD, Good to know I am not alone x

I kinda thought....should I keep these clothes 'just in case' I'll need them again...??!!! OF COURSE I WON'T !!!

So I sold a load of them on eBay...and so far I'm £150 richer !! YAY - so I'm treating myself to a facial the week before Christmas - BLISS :D I have been amazed at the stuff people will buy.....

maybe you should think about treating urself too....you deserve it !!!

hope you're feeling bit better today...

Hi Vicky

I do know what you mean, it's really letting go of a big comfort blanket and saying goodbye to part of your past. Plus of course some clothes are real favourites, and have memories that go with them, and that can be hard to let go of.

I got rid of all of mine EXCEPT one or two of the really nicer things, that had been quite expensive. I tried to be pragmatic about it, and whilst I have no intention of getting bigger again, and if I did I'd still have to buy a whole new wardrobe, I just thought that if I did I'd be mad that I'd got rid of these things, and I just didn't want to part with these couple of items. They're in a bag up in the attic, so they're not in my wardrobe and easily accessible, but TBH, 7 months on and with a whole new wardrobe of clothes and new favourites, I now could quite happily get rid of them.

Onwards & upwards and look forward to all your lovely new clothes

I put a load of suits in Tescos clothes bank for africa. I keep watching on the news for a little African chap walking round in a 48 inch chest Dinner suit with his trousers tied up with string.
Either that or spot one of my suits being used as a tent.
Gave most of my trousers to staff at the hotel but for some reason haven't got round to sorting out my shirts. I don't know why but I have a wardrobe full of potential sails for some yachtsmen but just can't bring myself to throw them out.

I kind of went throught the same thing in reverse. I had kept on to my "skinny" clothes for years. When I started uni I was a 12 and every year I went up a dress size. My wardrobe ranged from a 12 to a 20. When I moved to Sweden, I could only take what fit in my tiny Kia Pride. All my skinny clothes had to go. I didnt think I would ever wear them again. It was devestating to let go of things that had so many memories. It was sad and depressing and made me feel OLD. Despite the fact that many things I hadnt worn in 4 years, I missed them in my wardrobe. Silly, I know.

They are definately like a comfort blanket, but they have to go, I know that.

I do feel better today about it, and lets hope I make something so I can treat myself!

Each time I put something on and it was too big, I put them in a bag, when it was full it was off to the charity shop near work.

The other day I said that this was the last of it to the woman in the shop. She was thinner than I was when I started, but heavier than I am now. She went 'Oh it's alright for some not needing big clothes anymore'

I can't believe someone actually wants to be my weight! I've spent 20 yrs looking at people and wishing I was as slim as them!

Mind, I do wish I'd kept one pair for photos. I squeezed into a size 18 tousers in Next for a suit. I knew I was kidding myself in them as they were side fastening with lots of Lycra so very stretchy. I could barely breath in them though.

For morale boosting purposes, I bought the same trousers as I got smaller. Today, I'm wearing the size 8. Would love to have the 18's to see how much I've lost!
