i started lipo last week with my friend,we had our first weigh in yesterday,i lost 8.5lbs and she lost 5.5lbs she was so upset.i tried to explain it could be dow to her totm and i think she accepted that ,do you think she might lose a bit extra next week.id hate her to lose hope and give up.

The problem with any weight loss is that it is different for everyone. I have seen people on this forum that had a similar BMI start as I did but lost almost a stone in their first week. I lost 8.5lbs and it made me wonder why I hadn't lost as much as them! It can be disheartening- but she has lost nearly half a stone which is much more than she would have done on a conventional diet..... So congratulations to the both of you! I found that my first totm on LT I lost a disappointing 2.2lbs, but this time round I lost 3.3lbs. Tell her to keep her chin up and hopefully next week she will have a larger loss- but if not a loss is still a loss regardless... it still gets you one step closer xxx

I really think there's too much emphasis put on how much you can lose in the first week. I'd have been happy at that - if she'd been on a 'normal' diet of cutting out everything bad, and exercising like a mad thing, she might have been lucky to lose 2lb.

As long as the needle on the scales is going down instead of up, it's all good.

You know. When I did Cambridge 2nd time around, I only lost 3.5lbs the first week...and the 2nd...then 3lbs the 3rd.

Tis good though. That first couple of weeks is a lot of water and glycogen mix. Not so much fat. I put it down to the fact that I wasn't eating much crap before I did it that time.

It does seem to be the case that the worse the way of eating is, before you start these diets, the bigger the loss in the first week.

So...good on her for only losing 5.5lbs. Still a great loss, but in the grand scheme of things, that first week doesn't really mean a lot IYKWIM.

Keep on trucking both of you:cool:

at my 1st WI i lost 6lb. i was feeling despondent as others had lost much more but i went on to lose 5lb most weeks after. so tell your friend well done and keep up drinking with the water

5.5lb is a great loss and she should be pleased with herslef, i had a 9lb loss and was thinking maybe I could lose at much as 18lbs like someothers have on here but thats just silly thinking!

If she lost that a week shes looking at over 20lbs a month and thats huge!

People lose at different rates, the important thing is that it IS a loss :)

This diet is so simple you cannot fail to lose weight if you follow it to the programme :)

Some weeks I have better WIs than others but I never look at the weeks, just the bigger picture :)

Stick with it both of you :) The 1st week is out of the way... you should be plain sailing now :) x

Key to consistent weight loss is drinking the 4 litres of plain water a day. Is your friend downing the required amount of water?

Her lower loss may have been down to a better diet before she started. I knew someone who had a very low loss her first week compared to me but she had been eating lots of salad and lean meat and slimfast before she started.
