Speaking of Christmas....

....just wondering wat kind of family traditions you all have?

On Christmas Eve, we always visit friends on the other side of Dublin city, then go to my grandparents graves, go home, my dad makes the stuffing (the only time he 'cooks' all year!) then we go to evening mass. Get home, Chloe leaves her santa stuff out, she eventually goes to sleep and then myself and my sister wrap her pressies and then usually go to the pub for last orders to catch up with other friends that have moved away.......

Christmas morning, get up, light the main fire, open the tin of roses (not for me this yr!) check to see if santa has been, Chloe opens all her pressies, my dad does brekkie, then one of our old neighbours comes up, then we go to visit my dads aunts and by the time we get home we help finish with the dinner and eat around 5pm...and are all usually asleep by 8pm!!

I always take the kids to my mothers for christmas dinner then they go to their dads in the afternoon. thats about it.

So wat do you do when they're gone???

That would be my worst nightmare....couldnt even imagine not having Chloe for the whole of Christmas, even though shes a handful most of the time.....it must be awful for you

I sit at home and wallow in self pity at being all alone at christmas :(

Hi Kati,

How about drawing up a plan of all the extra special things you would like to do on Xmas Day, once the kids are gone and you have some meee time.?

Do the kids stay overnight with their Dad? If so, you could arrange something soon if you want to spend Xmas night outside of the house. Maybe with mates or family? Or plan your TV watching, computer, anything.

If they don't stay over and come back to you that night, then you could just literally put your feet up, watch your favourite film(you must have one:D ) and enjoy the PEACE until they return.

If i'm sounding too positive and getting on your wick then tell me hun, but I do believe that even on Xmas Day you can relish the time you have just to yourself. You look after your kids all year.....don't you deserve NOT TO sit and wallow in self-pity?:) I think so.

Lacey..xxx

they usually stay at their dads for a few days then. I must admit I hate imposing myself onto people so prefer to wait till I'm invited somewhere than asking someone to do something with me. I know most people will be wanting to spend that time with their family and I don't want to get in te way of that.

You're right though i shouldn't sit and wallow in self pity I ill have to find something to do. the past 3 years I was at university so used the time to study for the january exams but dont have that to do this year thankfully! Last year I don't think I saw or spoke to anyone for 4 days! that will drive me mad this year.

You sound like you've already decided that THIS Xmas will be different for you Kati?:D

4 days to yourself......blimey..can we all come to your house and crash!!!!...lol ;)

You should sooooo have a party....just a thought, do people around you know that you may be spending Christmas night alone? Some people might not like to invite you because they could think you have other plans and dont want to offend you by assuming you'll be alone....just a thought....

Good thought Kazz!!!!

well it is a good idea and people probably don't know I'll be spending it alone, but I don't know many people to have a party. I've hid myself away for so long because of my lack of confidence I only really have a handfull of friends. One of them was telling me what she had planned last nght, another will be with her boyfriend and their kids, anther plans to be with family and thats all i can think of realy, so wouldn't be much of a party.

Nevermind hun....we've got a month to help you arrange the best Xmas ever!!!! Just chilling, boosting your own confidence and enjoying the peace...xxx:D

Well, why not bring up Christmas in conversation with a few different people....and kind of slip in the fact that you are gonna miss your kids while they are at their dads, and that you dont know wat your going to do with yourself?

I know most people spend Christmas with their family, but I have regularly had friends over when they had no other places to go that night.....and my family would always say they'd prefer to have a couple of extras than to think of people being alone.....

Get a flight to dublin and ur sorted lol

Christmas in the Brad mansion (or Brad Towers as it is known by the locals) has to be different this year.

Every year we give the staff the morning off. I know it is extravagant, but we have always done it and they have come to expect it. I dock their pay, of course.

Anyway..............
Every year, my eldest boy (6) gets up about 2 o'clock in the morning with a chorus of "has he been, has he been".

Mrs Brad shuffles him back to his room to settle him. I would have done it but I was munching the 13 mince pies laid out for Santa and his Reindeers :)D ) and a half bottle of port and some baileys (well, got to convince the kids eh).

He (now 'they' as have a 2 year old as well) get up again at 6 and we give in and open the presents. Obviously I crack open the quality Street (greedy git sized tin of course) and just for good measure open the miniature heroes - well, it is Christmas.

It is then a running buffet all the way through Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Too full to do anything, but eat more (what was that about).

This year, it will be one half-fat mince pie for Santa and 12 raisins. Yum

There will be no running buffet, we will have fancy food, but not tonnes of it.

In the afternoon, we will be going out for a walk or some other activity to burn up the food.

I will however still have the port and baileys - well, it is Christmas :D

I really am looking forward to this Christmas and all the others as well. I love getting presents. My boy likes to make us stuff (tight git  ), which is almost as good as the stuff he could have got me from the shop, but not quite. Only joking

May you all get what you want this Christmas.

And if you don't , you have still got the 16 day no quibble guarantee from Argos.
