Need a bit of advice. i seen alot of talk on here recently of the depo injection and was wondering if i should come off it as im due to have it in about 2 weeks. i have been reading up on it and learned alot of stuff they dont actualy tell you when you first take it. firstly i have read that i will need to take a bone density test now as ive been having it for about 3 years. it says alot of people gain weight, although i only gained weight the past year im wondering if thats why im having so much trouble losing any....??!! your not meant to take it if you suffer from depression (which i do) and it can make you really misserable. i hear you canthave it for more than 5 years cause it will make you infertile. the reason i have it is because it stops periods which when i had them i used to be very sick and pass out (that may change as im older now), but if i knew all this i dont think i would of started using it. im hoping if i stop it i will lose weight?! can anyone give me any advice on it or tell me about their experience???

I think everyone is different to be honest.

I'm on the depot injection too but haven't really had any dodgy side affects (apart from being more hormonal straight after having it).

I'm not losing much weight at the moment purely because I'm cheating, not because of the injection - but thats just me.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do x

Not sure about this but I had the mirena coil fit about 7mnths ago..was told the same as you that there are no side affect...I then gained a stone and a half become so ratty(nomally a nice pleasant person)and had Really terrible back pain...A bit like contractions . So I had it removed a while back and I'm now back to my normal pleasant pain free self.....still over weight but thats due to wine and Chocolate!!! I think if you have doubts then try something else.

another reason is that the past few months my labido has gone completely!!! 100% and i dont know the reason. i just hear that it cud be a side effect. although would it still happen after i have used it so long. well its driving me crazy anyways

You may have side affect for a while whilst it is cleared out of you system but ultimately you will feel better.

I had the depo and i hated it. I would never reccommend it to anyone. I actually fell pregnant on it at the end of month 2, didn't realise know, had the 3rd jab at the right time, then miscarried due to the 3rd jab.

It made me gain weight, it made me miserable and it complete knocked my libido for six.

I am now in the implant which is working fine for me, and i've not had a period since having it put in in May.

Contraception is a really individual thing - good luck with whatever you decide.

I had the depo injection about 10 years ago, it lasted 6 months. I've never felt so tired and fed up in my life. Strangely, my scalp itched too, and thats when my weight problems really began with a vengeance. I'd never recommend it to anyone. Also, all those artificial hormones over a long period can't be good for you. Good luck with whatever you decide.

thats what im thinkin.... it gives me big mood swings and im abit worried about health problems in the long run. tbh ive done abit of research and more people say its bad than good! when i started having it i asked the family planning place if i can do a pregnancy test each time i have the jab 'just in case' and she said there is no need because theres absolutly no way i will get pregnant if i take it at the right time. with the implant does it hurt to be put in? cause it looks asif it could be painful?? and also does everyones periods stop on it?? and is it almost 100% effective?? because i might give depo a break for a while to see if it makes me feel any different in a good way but need something to substitue it. i hear you can put on weight on the pill too

personally if i knew then what i know now about the depo i would never have even considered having it. unfortunately GP's and nurses don't tell you anything about the depo.

i could write an essay on the depo and how s*** it is, but i won't! basically it's given my gyno problems and has killed my sex drive :(

when i started having problems on the depo i read up on it and also read lots of forums and there are so many women out there with the same problems i have had. i stopped taking it in december 2007 - thank god!

I am having this debate at the moment, due to have my third injection on monday, however, I think I am going to have to go back on the pill, this injection really isn't suiting me, my labido has gone completely. I cannot tell you how itchy my skin is and comes out in hives if I itch too much and my head, sure the kids think i have nits (lol)

As for mood swings I am having more bad days than ever before :(

Good luck with what you decide x

I have been told that the injection puts you off Nookie. I came off the mini pill recently cos I made me moody. Now I just stick to my little rubber friends.

jesus well that's another side effect to add to the collection! i have quite mild eczema and ever since i went on the depo i've had 2 patches on my lower legs that itch until they bleed and never really go away despite ointment from GP. i also used to get loads of whiteheads on my neck to and since coming off it they've never returned - until a month ago when i went on progesterone tablets for 10 days!

me too - my boyfriend hates it, but it's tough t*ts really! i'm like 'you either want it or you don't!' lol

how longhave ya been off it?? and are you all better now??
i hear the symptoms can still linger for up to a year, specaily as i have had it for so long. also im guessing it is the reason for my labido now as its the reason for so many others. i dont think its given me any other major problems apart from i get quite moody and low sometimes for no reason but that may just be cause im a woman :p. think ill go to the docs and ask about the implant when the injection has run out!!

I'm due my injection in a couple of weeks but am torn. On the one hand my holiday is in 6 weeks and I don't want a period (does anyone know how quickly you get your period back once you stop? - shallow I know) but will one more really cause that much more damage when I have been on the blimmin thing for 15 years?

My concerns are:
Increased risk of Cervical cancer (had dodgy smears and several trips to colposcopy clinic - but is this just another wild theory?)
weight gain
Severe mood swings
tiredness
exzema
apathy

On my last visit to the doc she asked me if I was aware of the side effects and mentioned decreased bone density but she caught me on the hop and I was late for work (my doctors are poo and the appointment was 45 minutes late - told work I would only be 20 minutes) so I just shrugged it off and muttered something about combating that with weight bearing activity to get out of there

Any words of wisdom and personal experiences would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for reading my waffling post

I have the implant and it's worked fine for me.

Having it put in is painless - you have a local anesthetic which scratches a bit, but that's it. It feels a bt tender when the local has worn off, but that's it. Not painful at all. You have a couple of butterfly stitches and a dressing, just to keep it clean. The stitches stay on for a week, or until they fall off!

Although when you have to have it taken out, it will leave a tiny scar, I haven't had any negatives with it.

Oh, actually, abou a week after i had it put in, it became itchy around the site, but I think that was a combination of it healing and settling in.

You can feel it, but not see it, and it's about the size of a matchstick.

just wanted to say having the implant in is no prob u dont feel it at all!! this is my third year so getting it renewed this year!!
i suffered with slight depression/teary but was only after having a baby so dunno which was the cause!! ive noticed im a lil dry but nothing lube cant sort out ;) ha
i did put on weight but dont think can blame that on the implant ...like come on if ya eat the way i did ya cant not put it on ha
i also have no perod with it...brill!! id advise it to any one though

My OH said, you can just so no and then we aint gotta buy them! I said that he might want to do without it but I certainly don't! Bloody cheek. (He is 16yrs older than me but that's not excuse!)

my depo is due in a week and im defo not gonna have it again. implant sounds good but im going to wait afew months first to let my body get back to normal and then maybe see about gettin it.

sorry to bring it up again ......but im thinking of having the implant soonish but am worried im gonna balloon really big. has anyone else experienced this?? i didnt on the injection but i know they have the same symptoms. and i dont wanna be doing all the hard work to gain it all back for the implant.
