Has nothing to do with LT but......

I will do this!!!
...this is about data protection and using personal information. So you fill out an application form for the council and it had your name, address, occupation and income on it then they publish this information on their website for everyone to see. Is this right? is it not illegal???

in every form from the council i would presume there would be a box where u opt out of making ur details public. was this is the form and if so did u tick it??

if not i would get in touch with them and ask them to take ur details of the website asap

my job is highly confidential - i have to be very very careful what information i give to everyone - including people working in the same office. I would be immensely irritated if another government agency was so willy nilly with my details hun

On every form iv ever filled out i always tick the box that says not to share my details so i dont see why this time it would be different!!

then contact them - even if you missed out ticking the box this time - it wont make any difference - they have to abide by your wishes - phone them tuesday after the bank hols and get it sorted hun

xx

My OH wants to sue them for breaking data protection and privecy

that could be an option - but the first thing u should do is make sure that the form u filled in had the option of privacy - and if you ticked it - then request the removal of ur information - then if you want to sue tell them u will be taking legal advice and that u require the head honchos name so that any correspondence can be addressed to him marked private and confidential of course. :D See how they react. For all they know you could have been under the witness protection programme or owt ffs.

Im definatly going to request that my form or at least a copy is sent to me so i can check!

good plan - and if the option wasnt even on there then u have a case to bargain with anyway - the way its going in the news when government agencies 'lose' personal data - now is not the time for the council to be fookin up lol

Exactly. Iv just emailed them asking for a copy of my application so hopefully that'll come soon. Thanks for the help :)

you're welcome - keep us posted!! :D

Awwwww... i will have to make up a fab secret job to entertain myself lol

oh says they are not allowed to do it it is breach of confidentuality and also it gives anyone the info for identitity theift!!

I always opt out of any data sharing/marketing stuff, and always refuse to include our home number. In our old house under the old phone number we received dozens of sales calls a day, at all hours. So when we moved I listed the new number as ex-directory and removed us from the marketing preference list, and hey presto, zero marketing calls. They dont like it when you refuse to tell them your home number, some get quite pushy, I am happy to give them my mobile number, as I know they wont pay to call it!!
