Type 2 diabetes

Hello everyone. Hope you're having a fab Friday eve whatever you're doing. I've not really been on this last couple of days as i've been practicing for my big presentation for my course today. Now it's all over - yippeee!! :D

I have a question. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a couple of years back and she's been struggling to lose weight. Her doctor is constantly at her about losing the weight, but well we all I know what it's like! Sometimes it seems the harder you try, the less you lose. She has been very interested in doing the LL programme. I was under the impression, diabetics can not do it. But I'm sure someone said to me they came off their tablets and were no longer type 2. Can anyone offer any ideas on this? Thank you ;)

I think you can do it if you are tablet controlled with the doctors consent but you can not do it, only in hospital, if you are insulin dependent. It's worth asking you LLC about it as I wouldn't want you to quote me but I did ask my llc as my dad is an insulin dependent diabetic who has a big weight problem. Sadly he can't do it :(

this is from the ll website. i hope it helps x

Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes can be managed by diet, exercise, tablets and, in some cases, insulin injections. If you have type 2 diabetes you may be eligible to join the LighterLife Programme as long as your GP agrees to monitor your medication regularly.

Before starting the LighterLife Programme, you must have a management plan for your diabetes agreed with your GP.

While abstaining from conventional food, you’ll need to have your medication reviewed by your GP regularly, your 28 day check is a good time to do this.

Up to 80% of people with type 2 diabetes can have their medication reduced or stopped by losing weight. Because you’re likely to lose weight rapidly on the LighterLife Programme, it may be possible to reduce your diabetes medication, under medical supervision, within days

That's fab folks, thanks for that. Will check with LLC on Monday and give her the news! Many thanks :)
