Maintaining

Just a quicky to let you all know and to get a pat on the back from you loveley people.
Have been off CD for longer than I was on it now, have been on holiday gone out and abused myself to the limit. Which by the way when it comes to booze is a lot less than it used to be.
I have grown old (am now 40) but despite all this with the help of sensible eating I am still on Target so anyone who is worried about putting it back on DON'T.
Look forward to going out and having great times and enjoying yourself.
Just don't go back to how you were all the time.

A word of warning though.

I went out and drank like I used to but got very very very hammered, could not walk straight fell over jarred my shoulder and bruised myself all over so take a lesson from me and pace yourselves it hurts.

Great to see you are all still "troshin on" as we say in Norflok.

Love to all Jas;)

Hi Jas

Thanks so much for posting. It is reassuring to hear from those who are successfully maintaining as more often than not we only hear from the strugglers and it is a major concern for us all whether or not we can maintain.

Congrats on your success and thanks again!

Looks like you are nearly there Dizzy keep up the good work.

Thanks yes I am but am struggling a little now I'm reintroducing food. Been this weight for about a month now maybe longer due to not sticking to the plan. My hubbie has reached his goal now too so we are really at the stage of preparing ourselves to maintain.

Will look out for your future posts for little tips and inspiration.

Hi Jas, :)

Its good to hear you are still maintaining your weight as we dont hear enough success stories after. The general feeling about the Cambridge from some of the people I have spoken to is that we put it all back on in the end.

Not true I have been off the diet for about a month now and I have kept my weight at about the same as when I finished the diet. Actually some days I have even lost a couple of pounds just by eating healthy.

Its all about just getting the right balance and still enjoying yourself.

And you are right about the alcohol, talk about being carried home.

Speak to you soon

Nick :)

Thanks for this, I am moving up the stages come this weekend and youve made me feel so much better x

Even though I am currently "one of the strugglers" mentioned, I have to agree with the comments in this thread. I did maintain my weight perfectly well for 5 months, and I am only 13lbs above my "lowest" weight even now, but am still 4lbs below the "target" I set myself when starting a VLCD. So, even though I am heavier than I "want" to be, I am still below "target".

I lost focus for various reasons, but now I have my head on straight again, I also know why I am heavier than I want to be. It is purely because I increased my intake because I increased my exercise - I had to because I felt weak/dizzy whilst exercising, and was continuing to lose ans was starting to look gaunt. However, I jarred my back and had to stop the exercise for a while, but I did not reduce my intake in line. THAT is why I put on a few pounds. Technically overeating, but not to excess, and not like I was before.

So, I agree - maintaining is a matter of being aware of all matters relating to your needs, intake, and output, and maintaining them ALL in line with each other.

I lost 104 pounds in total on VLCD, and am currently only 13 pounds up, and reducing that. I have now not been on "full VLCD" for 8 months, so am maintaining reasonably well.

All it takes is awareness, a little concentration, and honesty with yourself ..... oh, and not going back to your old habits!

As Jason said - don't worry about putting it back. If you stay focused, you won't. Just remember that there are more elements to your weight and health than just what you eat. I forgot that.

You lot are great, Im going to be looking to you for inspiration x

Well done, both of you. It is so easy to concentrate on "the diet"and forget that the hardest bit comes afterwards. You guys sound like you really have it sorted.

Hi ya, :)

How I view maintenance is not like I am on a "prison sentence" but away of having the best of both worlds. We all like food because we wouldn't of been on here in the first place. so it is still important that we still enjoy the times out for meals with friends when we do. But making sure we keep on TRACK in between these meals. The key is to look forward to a meal out and not have them 7 nights a week like some of us did before ( i was one of those).

We must make sure we Cut all our old bad habits down but i am sure we can keep a few of them but making sure they are controlled.

There is no point to losing weight if you are scared to eat and importantly not happy. I am keeping my weight controlled, look good ( matter of opion) and I am very happy with how i feel and with my maintenance so far.

Nick :)

I didn't used to eat out every night like Nick. how out of control can you be mate?
I used to Eat out only about three nights a week then stuff Chinese and Indian takeaways the rest of the time.
Washed down with gallons of red wine then I wondered why I used to get major acid reflux.
All a thing of the past now.
Great to hear from some other blokes as well, when I first came on this site they were a bit on the rare side to say the least.

If we can get more men to diet and look after theirselves we won't be a dying breed. :)

We may even take over the forum you never know.

Nick :)

its great to hear from maintainers, someone said that its where the hard work begins and i agree with that, not that the diet bit is easy i just think that maintaning is harder psychologically

Definately keeping the weight off is harder than losing it, even if only for the reason that you have to keep the weight off forever whereas the diet is a few months of your life.

I am still at goal weight 9 months after finishing the mad diet but I do wander round Tesco now and think it is no surprise I got big when 75% of the food in there is not what I would call healthy.

I stood in Liverpool Street Station on Sunday and looked for something healthy for my lunch and the choice was Burger Kind, Bagel Shop, Steak Pasty Shop, French Croissant Shop or a pub!!! The whole country needs healthier options as I think most of us would choose healthy when we can but a lot of time that isn't possible.
