Gallstones?

jackietrew

Will be slim!!!!!!!
hey everyone,

On the 22nd of July i was taken into hospital as was in excruciating pain in my upper abdomen, and the paramedics thought it was gallstones, and i had had this pain for a couple weeks before that but the GP thought i just had excess acid in my stomach so gave me some tablets for that, anyway went into hospital and had loads of ultrasounds and blood tests etc and turns out i did have gallstones, and had an operation to take my gallbladder out a couple days later.

but the point of this thread is, basically has anyone on here had their gallbladder out? if so did you have pain afterwards? because its over a week since the op and im still experiencing twinges of pain and im on alot of medication for it, and what side effects did you have?

hope someone can help!

thanks

Hi Jax

As you know, I've had mine out. Was a long time ago so trying to remember.

I was in hospital for a week I think, and in pain for most of that time but I think it was more pain from the op than anything else.

I had pain after that for quite a long time but only after eating and that meant learning what I could and couldn't digest.

I don't recall having had pain other than associated with eating after the op and then, as I say, it was eating things that I couldn't digest.

Did you have keyhole or open surgery hon? That makes a difference to the answer to your question.:)

Hi

I had my gallbladder out in July 2007 and I had discomfort, not sure I would call it pain, for at least a week. I still sometimes get a twinge in the same area as where I got the gallstone pain, I asked my GP about it and she said that it was probably due to scar tissue and it would eventually settle down but it could take a good year or so.

Remember that your body is adjusting to missing an organ so it will take a while for everything to get back to normal.

However what you are describing sounds normal to me and on the positive side i've had no side effects, i'm so glad it's gone as i'm no longer paranoid about eating fatty or spicy foods. No one can understand the pain unless they've been though it.

Hang in there, it will get easier.

xx

thanks everyone for your replys, pinkdiamond i had keyhole surgery. i feel much more relaxed now, was just worried as iv heard horror stories about stones being left in the ducts and causing the pain and symptoms again. grrr gallbladders are nasty! x

I had my gallbladder out in January of this year. I remember feeling pain for a few days after it. Almost like a mild gallbladder attack.

Did worry me a bit, but it appears to be a common symptom after the op.
