Seeing GP tomorrow starting later next week

Calkarima

Gonna do it this time
Hi again

just wondering how you all approached your GP's about CD. I'm hoping that they will sign the paper work for me to start but don't know how to convince them if they say no.

I have PCOS and am also wondering if I can take Metformin whilst on CD. I'm going to see her tomorrow afternoon.

Anyway seeing a CDC on Wednesday and looking forward to starting after that.

I had no problems with my GP so really can't give you any advice on that, sorry.
Just wanted to say good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you xx

I can't remember who it was now but there was someone on here that had problems getting their doctor to sign for them until they told them that they weren't asking for their permission to do the diet they were only after a signiture to confirm that their GP knew they were doing the diet! LOL. That certainly would have put that GP in their place! LOL. So if your GP refuses you know exactly what to say!
Welcome to minimins hun and good luck with your CD journey, I'm sure you'll do fab!;)

Yeh, I have a similar story - I went in and said "I am starting the Cambridge Diet tomorrow and have had to fill in a form to detail my medical information and get you to verify what I have said is correct" so I wasn't asking her permission to start, I was just asking them to confirm I wasn't lieing!
I think it helped that mine was really lovely, but I was thinking about it before I went in and had read the bit the docs have to sign which says something like "I confirm that the details given above are correct" so it's not about getting their permission.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. I hope you get on as good as I did - my doctor was amazing, really supportive and said to come back any time I was struggling, so she could cheer me on and help me through it!

Ps - I was going to restart last year and went to a different GP at the practice and had a completely different approach as I hadn't thought about it before I went in - I went in more or less asking permission to do the diet. She wasn't keen at all and was on the verge of not signing it. However, I just said that it's not healthy being the weight I was, that I have tried other diets and they haven't worked, but that I really believed this would help me - eventually she caved in - so both approaches worked, but the more recent one was the best!! I think it helps too if you know your doctors at the practice! I knew not to go to her again, but had had good experience with the recent one so decided to go to her and it worked! x

if you take the metformin purely for pcos you wont need to take the metformin ( theres a note about it in the information for doctors ) as cd controls the blood sugar levels enough, with metformin on top of that you risk low blood sugars ( i know, ive done it )

Hi

Thanks for your replies. I've decided I'm going with the.

"I'm starting CD next week and need you to confirm I'm fit and healthy approach"

they can't say I'm not as I've not seen them in a year.

I spoke with the CD Medical Advisor this morning and she said that I'm ok to take Metformin with CD products. I'm hoping it'll put me back on an even keel again but if it doesn't or I feel like its affecting my sugar levels I'll stop it. I didn't feel too hot the last time I took it so am hoping to get the slow release stuff. They probably won't give me a prescription for it anyway but I'll ask anyway.

I'm really excited about starting. I'll let you know later how I get on.

Good luck Hunny xx

Hi

Saw a lovely GP who spoke to me for over half and hour . Her other patients must have loved me!!!!!

Anyway, she first of all said yeah go for it then asked what it involved . I gave her the booklet and explained it a bit. She then looked very worried. I said to her, nicely, that I was an intelligent woman and wouldn't do anything that I thought was going to put my life at risk. I had researched it well and believed that as I hadn't lost anything on any other diet that this was possibly my last option. She still wasn't convinced and said that she would prefer me to do the option that involved eating a meal a day. Her reason for this is "you'll be hell of a hungry otherwise"

She has signed the form (a bit reluctantly at the end) and I've to go back and see her in a month (she took my blood pressure and it was sky high, my wee boy has Down Syndrome and he was playing me up so its no wonder). As well as taking my blood pressure she has said she will prescribe the Metformin I need then once I'm established on my diet and she can see how well I'm doing.

I still think I would be better on the 3 shakes a day and probably will do this actually, at least to start with.

Do you get the same results when you eat one meal a day as when you only take the shakes.

Sorry I know I'm being a pain but I've got so many question.

Happy but confused now.

I'm soooo pleased for you bet you can't wait to get started!
Speak to your CDC & tell her your doc's concerns regarding eating & see what she thinks. I have done great on SS &, as that is all I've done can't advice you on any other plan, sorry!
I also see my Doc every month & he is very pleased with the way it's going so I'm sure when you see your Doc next month she will be really pleased too. Good luck & remember we are all here to offer help & advice so ask all you want xx

Hey, glad you got your form signed ok. It sounds like your doctor still doesn't quite understand SS - especially saying you will be hungy. You will only be hungry in the first few days till Ketosis kicks in.
Of course, you can do whatever plan you want, but I love doing SS and not involving any meals at all, it just makes life so much easier at this stage.

Good luck with whatever plan you choose and with your first week on CD - keep us posted x

Hi

I left the booklet with her to read, I did explain about the Ketosis but she couldn't get past the fact that she thought I should just eat fruit and veg to get the result. Anyway I really don't care what she thinks, she's signed the form, I know what I'm doing is the right thing and my hubby has finally come round to it. So all in all I'm happy. Roll on Wednesday. Gonna cut my carbs from Sunday to help me get started.
