Must you AAM on Week 5

Hi Guys,

My CDC tells me I MUST add a meal in week 5 for the week, however, I have read in some postings that that is no longer required, can anyone advise??

I'd rather not, after adjusting to not eating, I think I'll find it hard to start eating for a week, and then stop again.:(

Many thanks.

Sole Source and Sole Source + (Addition of Skimmed Milk)
You can still just do SS as always however to do this your CDC must write to the GP for information only as SS is below 600 cals these are the new rules.

If you do not want your CDC to notify your GP you must then do the SS+ programmes either 4 shakes and 200ml skimmed milk or 3 shakes and 200 cal meal (similar to the AAM) this equates to 615 cals.

You can however opt to do SS+ anyway as you may wish to have the skimmed milk or extra pack.

You can also have three packs and skimmed milk, however, the GP would still need to be notified as this would fall under 600 cals. This is not a set programme please discuss with your individual CDC.

Please note that carb sensitive people may find the addition of skimmed milk can slow weightloss and break ketosis.

A VLCD (under 800 cals) can only be used for 12 weeks then on week 13 you have to move up to 810 which is a LCD.

SS+ is still a VLCD.

You can also now stay on SS for the 12 weeks continuously then add food in week 13 then continue for another 12 weeks or until BMI 25 is reach which is the point at which 810 has to be introduced.

The foods for the SS+ are as listed in the New Pink and Blue booklet, these are however the same as those listed for AAM in the Old Pink and Blue booklet.

Thanks Mini, however I must be thick, because I still don't know is I have to AAM in week five or not.

My CDC wrote to my GP when I started SS and so far has not had any reply.

You don't have.

You can SS until week 13 when you will need to do 810.

As long as the doctor has been contacted...which it sounds like he/she has. The doctor doesn't have to agree, or disagree...just be informed.

So keep going with the SSing, oh and maybe you could gently refer your CDC to this forum;)

There were rules changed a few months back and to be honest I find it very confusing myself as I am not doing CD now.

However this has come up recently and CD Counsellor who is well up on CD matters said that you can now...

I am sure a CDC will be along to clarify this...

spot on KD - you can now do Sole Source (providing GP has been informed - GP consent only required if BMI 40+ or if you're on certain medication - CDC will advise), or any of the Sole Source plus plans (either 3 packs plus 200cal meal OR 4 packs plus 200ml skim milk) for a MAXIMUM of 12 weeks......in the 13th week you MUST move to a plan of more than 800cals - hence the move to the 810plan for week 13.

After this, if your BMI is still higher than 25, you can go back to using SS or either of the SS+ plans.

You must move to the 810 plan as soon as your BMI hits 25...but you can continue to use the 810plan until BMI = 20.

hope that helps.....
