Partners & Kids - Friend or Foe?

Thought I would start a new thread as we are in danger of hijacking Lou's thread.

Is your partner your friend or foe during your weight loss journey?

Mine as some of you know is affectionately called Dumb A** as his idea of losing weight is to not eat!! He sits and eats Rustlers cow bum burgers and packets of biscuits!! He is tall and slender but does have a bit of a pot belly.. although he tells me he has a good body for a man of 39 Haha no idea who has been lieing to him. He does try to be supportive at times.. which means he offers me biscuits and the says " Oh no you're not allowed those".
If I am eating something tasty I have made or bought in and he looks longingly and asks for a bit. I tell him that if I had poo on a stick he would want a bit!!

What about yours??

Hi im on cd but i hope you dont mind me jumping in on the thread. My bf is very supportive and well he still eats crap etc if i asked him not to he woudnt do it in front of me. when i first started he was very good and ate away from me and made sure to close the kitchen door when cooking so smells wudnt come my way!!

My other half is dieting with me so he is very encouraging. But then he would be even if he wasn't dieting too.

The one problem though is that he is soooooo competitive. Whatever I do he WILL do it better. If I say "I'm going just have boiled egg on toast for lunch" he'll say "I'll just have a boiled egg." He drives me mad with it .

My kids are great - really supportive and are also trying to cut out the bad stuff so it's not around the house to tempt me and hubby - awww bless.

mine is very supportive, he listens to me drone on about syns and HE's lol.:wave_cry:

Plus he enjoys our sunday curries....but he never stops eating, which can be a little frustrating:(

Although I don't help with all the chocolate i bring home from work, better he eats it than me.....:p

My other half does not like any of the SW food i cook - unless I have something left over and plan to have it the next day, funny how all of a sudden those Quorn Sausages are seen to be very tasty indeed for a snack!! Actually most of the time he is great, complimetns me no matter if I have lost, gained or stayed the same. My 15 year old son keeps telling I don't need to lose weight - how sweet is that?

I am really lucky - Mr B does all my planning, shopping and preparing of my meals when I am at home. He has made some great food discoverys (quorn lamb grills as an example) and makes some lovely pasta and rice dishes.
He encourages me at the gym when I say I cant do any more and tells me that he loves every inch of me but wants me to be able to do the same.
kids are also eating what we do pretty much and exercising more than they did - they are also really supportive of me

wow you lucky lady...:)

Mine's generally supportive, but he insists on taking me out to dinner every Friday and having wine, which isn't so helpful! The rest of the week he won't eat what I eat (quorn etc) so I have to cook separate meals.

Mines quite supportive bless him. If Im feeling down he tells me I dont need to diet anyway (sometimes helpful, sometimes not) but supports me best he can, when we're shopping he'll ask if Im allowed certain things before he puts them in the trolley, he'll also make suggestions for tea when Im stuck or bored. He doesnt eat choc, sweets or biscuits either so we dont have them in the house which does help. When I had my two week break from SW he encouraged me to stop thinking in terms of syns all the time and not beat myself up over it. Oh bless him I do love him xxxxxxxxxxx

mine tries to be supportive - bless him!

his idea of a diet is not to eat, which is frustrating if i sit down with potato wedges and quorn burgers - i feel i have to explain things to him over and over as he doesn't get the concept of being able to eat as much as i like, of certain foods.

he's never had a weight problem and was a constant 10.5 stone when i met him = very slim. he also doesn't understand that if i eat a pizza for my dinner i will gain 1 or 2 pounds that week, whereas he could eat one every night and stay the same svelt weight he is!

it's all new to him as he's never been with someone who has a weight problem. it's taken a while and lots of arguing, and tears on my part, but i do feel like he's supportive of me now...it just took a while for him to understand how he can be supportive!

yeah to be fair to them - sometimes I think they just dont know how to be supportive xxx

My bloke and I are both wanting to lose weight. However, he does it by just not eating. I've tried to explain how easy slimming world is etc, but guess I'm not the best example at the moment.

He has cooked me a few SW meals, which I thought was really sweet, but tend to revolve around meat and lettuce!!

I leave mine the ingredients and recipe book.....he's done ok so far....

Mine is supportive of my journey but he doesn't really understand. He has a very poor diet and is really skinny so he doesn't support me in that way and I have to keep banning him from bringing in crap food to the house that is likely to tempt me

my bf tries to be supportive, he eats what i eat and has lost quite abit of weight because of it however he does order pizza and goes 'oh go on just have one slice, ill leave it in the microwave for you' lol. he also joined the gym with me and stood next to me on the treadmill complaining because he wanted to go home and wouldnt exercise with me which isnt the best. over all though he does tell me off for snacking, even if its on free food
