Am I doing this right? (syn calculator)

I'm losing weight really slowly (as in hardly at all!) so thought I'd re-check some syn values, and check some of the stuff I've had in the cupboard for a while that I didn't know the syn value of.

Some of the noodles & pasta and sauces that weren't listed came up really high (like 25 syns for a pack of noodles) so I thought I'd check some foods I know are syn-free to see if I was doing it right.

Low fat Supernoodles, which I thought were syn-free came out as 5 syns per pack on both days?! How can this be right?? No wonder my weight isn't budging

I'm off to calculate some more.

It just shows you doesn't it - that even with the best of intentions we might be making silly mistakes, thats another benefit of being on here as thers people about to help pick us up on them xxxx

I calculate everything now, i dare not! theres too much fat and crap in foods now so everything is weighed and measured! feels a bit OTT sometimes but when a pounds gone at the wi i know its worth it!

I've only eaten things I've cooked from scratch all day after that scare! And drunk more water, which will hopefully help.

some things do show up as having syns in using the calculator, even though we are told they are syn free when you use the syns online, will check with my consultant this week!!!

Go with the syns online, its cos if you use the calculator it cant take into account free food allowance (i.e on a red day it would count the content of the meat even though its free) I havent explained that well....... but I know what I mean, whether anyone else does is a different story! xxx

I know what you mean, lol, I always go to the syns online search rather than calculator;)

so plse tell me the actual book, the directory, is accurate? Otherwise we're all done for...lol ... (ie) those noodles and pasta pkts - I use them a lot, so need to know that there's no syns in 'em on green ... is the directory accurate???!!!

yeah course the directory is accurate x

Oh dear, how to cause mass hysteria!

The Syn calculator is only to be used as a last resort as it can't evaluate the individual ingredients of an item. Someone has taken a lot of time and effort to seek out lots of food that we can eat for free and the science for this is a lot more complex than a simple calculation based on limited information. Always look at the Syns online before going to the calculator, it's not accurate enough

I did check the Syns online. It wasn't in there which is why I used the calculator - last resort. When the syns came out so high for a basic cheesy pasta & sauce type item, I thought I must be doing something wrong. To check, I tested it with something I did know the syns of.

I know that the majority of the Btahcelors pasta and sauces are free but not all of the ashops own brand ones are. Some have 5 - 6 syns but the Batchelors are free. As for the SuperNoodles on Monday my consukltant told me that the Batchelors Fat Free Noodles (Smoky Bacon, Chicken & Herb and SWeet Thai) are all free. I ate the Thai ones last night and checked and there are def free. However the Batchelors Super Noodles are not free and they are lots a packet so make sure you pick the right ones up.

Good luck

Ok i have logged onto SW online. The Super Low fat ones I have listed above are all free. However these are all synable and I have listed them. Syns all shown for a green day.

Super Noodles To Go 85g pot = 7
Super Noodles Cheese & Ham = 7
Super Noodles Beef = 3.5

The syn values vary but I think you might be eating perhaps the wrong ones.

Not all the batchelors pasta n sauces are free, but the ones that aren't are only 0.5 or 1 syn, so not worth worrying about. I don't use the calculator because everything comes up so high! I was shocked how high in syns the go ahead stuff is - you think it's healthy and low in syns, but you have to check because a lot of the time it's pretty bad.

Low in fat doesn't always mean low in calories and vice versa. They tend to point out what they are low in and hope that we don't check the other contents!
