hi

just wondering if we r allowed diet drinks with no sugar and no carbs, SUNPAT peanut butter and philadelphia. Also how do i work out the net carbs on packets (UK)?? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hiya Babyphat

Carb count : basically you deduct the grams of fibre from the carb content to get the net carbs.

e.g. 10 grams of carbs in a cracker, 6 grams of which are fibre - net carbs are 4 grams

* Please note, this is a ficticious example! :D

Diet drinks are ok in moderation (I believe) although obviously water should be your drink of choice.

With regard to peanut butter and philadelphia you need to check out the carb content vs the fat content, and count the carbs of what you're having to see if they're worth it. Also remember to go for full fat versions of things as they have lower carbs.

Hope that helps :)

thanx so much DQ! really appreciate it.

I thought we weren't allowed diet drinks because of the aspartamane. Great if we are, but can anyone tell me why we can't have aspartamane - I can't find it in the book, although I know I've read it.

I’ve done the Atkins on and off a couple of time and I’ve always had diet drinks.
I started again on Monday and so far I’ve lost 5lb and thats with drinking approx 2 small bottles a day. I do also drink coffee with cream, black coffee and copious amounts of water.

Was re-reading the book last night, and it said aspartame was not a good thing - can't find it again now though - ruddy typical

You would need to check the label as not all diet drinks are sweeten with aspartame.

There is a site in the UK that does diet sodas from the States where they use splenda instead of aspartame! Can't remember what they are called now though

Thanks DQ. I'll see what I can find. I read somewhere that there's some in M&S that doesn't have it in, but not had a chance to look yet.

For some reason Dietrite keeps popping into my head - not sure if that's the 'acceptable' brand or not....
