Please Help

I'm not on Cambridge, but vlcd also. I have had a few days where I've felt exhausted and weak and tired, but they pass! Keep up the good work, you've nearly lost a stone!!! stay strong whilst you're feeling low it's worth it. I had a low day yesterday and when I got on the scales today it showed a loss I was back in the zone again this morning. Not sure if you're allowed sugar free gum are you? we're not on W8 but not sure about Cambridge. Good luck for the rest of the day.

there is carbs in sugarfree gum and this could kick you out of ketosis that's why it is forbidden.
try the listerine strips or mouthwash if you need to. good luck for this week

Even when not on a vlcd we have days like this hun so stick with it ,your heads just playing games with you giving you an easy way out .You are doing to well to let the demonds win for just one down day xx

Day 6 ~ I couldn't take my head of the pillow this morning :break_diet: I was so sleepy and I feel like crap even now!
I have not cheated once am drinking 3ltrs + a day  I am chewing sugarfree gum tho...
Worried I won't lose any weight now coz maybe I am not in Ketosis!
Whats going on with me? x

The sugar free gum could well be the problem I posted this yesterday on another thread:
Glad you posted this this is the guidance taken directly from the Summer Edition of the CD Inspiration Magazine - your counsellor can order these from today. Smints are not allowed.

I know I shouldn't use sugar-free gum, but what can I use to help my 'ketosis breath'?

Firstly, clean you teeth more regularly to freshen your mouth.
Use mouthwash.
Use a mouth-refresher spray - there are several available from chemist shops and these can be very effective.
"Brushaways" - these are pads impregnated with toothpaste that fit over your finger for an emergency teeth clean.
Disposable toothpaste-impregnated brushes are also available - usually at service stations or airports.

Chewing gum is not generally advised, as it can stimultate the gastric juices and make you feel hungry. If desperate, cheew a very small piece of sugar-free gum for two or three minutes.

*throws gum away*

i'v been having gum and felt fine...and still lost a good amount, to be fair i havn't been having it everyday, but i guess yeah some people are affected differently xx

Sugar free gum usually contains polyols which are sugar alcohols. The body cannot use sugar alcohols for energy so it should not affect ketosis. However, gum can make you hungry, give you terrible flatulence and diarrhoea. Best not. Some don't have a problem with it YMMV.

Well it knocks me out of ketosis!

Kelly, are you eating it after a pack? If so, it is the pack taking you out of ketosis not the gum

Nope not after I've had a pack. It's the actual gum that does it!
I only ever test for ketosis first thing in the morning as it's the best time to test (before I eat or drink anything) and I've found that on mornings after I've have SFG I'm not in ketosis any more (only other thing I have the day before is my packs).

Ooer - the SFG with sugar alcohols should not do that but not all of them have polyols as the sweetner.

Thing is I've heard of it happening to others to so there is obviously something in there that some people are sensitive to!
Gum in generally not a good idea on CD for anyone and I would always tell people to have a breath spray and only use gum as a last resort!
