Please nag Barb!

So, I am now very keen to lose some weight before our cruise to Alaska, which is just 12 weeks away!

I have had a lovely long weekend away and am alarmed to return 7lbs heavier.
Push the panic button now!!
So, I am going to 'food diary' it for 12 weeks, go for lean, healthy food options, cut back the booze dramatically and see what progress I can make.;) I am going to stick with a weekly weigh in and increase my exercise. :D
I feel incredibly unfit!

Please cheer me on! How much do you think I could lose? Start weight 234lbs!

Do your best and the weight will come off. I think that a food diary is an excellent idea just make sure that you put everything in it not just the food that looks good on paper. You will be amazed how much it helps. Good luck xx

Thanks Nicky! I know you are right. In 2002 I did a food diary and managed to lose 4 stone and it wasn't too much of a chore! 2.5 stone has crept back and although I knwo that it could be worse I am so fed up with feeling fat. I want to go on that cruise feeling fitter and happier. I am not bothered about being skinny, I don't think that is going to happen, but I know I will feel a lot better at elats a stone lighter. I am going to keep my food diary on my PC this time, I spend a lot of time on here and I figure I will reward myself with games of 'spider' when I have been good!

12 weeks, how much could I lose I wonder?

well I am doing SW and they say 1-2lb per week is a good average to lose. If you include exercise then an additional 1-2lb can be achieved. I have to say I am aiming for between 3-4lb per week but a loss every week even if it is not that high would keep me happy.

If you are not having a structured food plan like SW or WW or RC then maybe upping the exercise will help you shift some extra pounds.

I am sure you will do just fine though as I think that once your mind is in the right place you are on a winning journey xx.

Thanks again Nicky, it makes you think doesn't it? 3-4lbs a week would be fantastic. I would be very happy with 2, 3 would be brilliant though. Be nice to sneak under that 200lb mark!

Week one weigh in and a nice 3lbs off. So although no-one nagged, I didn't do too badly!

Hi Barb and congratulations with your progress so far - I bet you feel great about this positive start. :)
Very interested in your food diary: tell me, are you writing down actual calories or just recording what you eat, roughly? I can see how a diary might be helpful and I am doing a similar approach in just cutting back and exercising more as I'm not too good with strict regimes. I think keeping a diary sounds like a good incentive, but I know I couldn't find time to calorie count!
Please let me know what you're doing as it might help me too! Many thanks, x

Hi Mikki

I am not cal counting at all, I am just writing down EVERY morsel. I have cal counted in the past, it works but it makes me more obsessive about food at the very time that I need to be less. So, I know what foods to major on and which ones to avoid. I am going with healthy salads for lunches, fruit for breakfast and in between and then something like low cal curry and rice or similar for dinner. I am having a glass of wine and also a 'treat' like strawberries in a meringue nest with some low cal ice cream. I still sort of 'bear cal values in mind' but just to help me keep a rough idea of what Im doing. I'm chuffed with 3lbs and hope to do similar next week!

Hope that helps. Thanks for the nag Isobel, duly noted! I'll be good!

oh really..i never knew that, thats my something new learned for today :)

Well week 2 = disaster! I clearly do need nagging and plenty of it. I've read back my food diary on my PC and I totally deserve to have gained a lb; effort has just slipped away. Feel cross with myself and yet I know it's my fault so all I can really do is promise myself that i will do better. After all, it's only myself I'm letting down at the moment!

Poor you, but please try and be a bit nicer to yourself in other ways. Go for a walk, have a long bubble bath to let yourself refocus. If you really feel the need to pick, make a big pot of calorie-free vegetable soup. You can do this, because you want to be get back on track.
You'll do it. Don't look back, look forward. Do one positive thing at time and before you know it you'll be back on track.
Good luck.

Thanks Frances, you are absolutely right. I do want to get back on track. It's so easy to let things slip isn't it? Its equally amazing though how the positive things mount up. So, thats what i must look for the positives and be better prepared for snack attacks!

Could every one please get behind me and give me a right good boot up the backside? I know I should be able to find the gumption but I think mine has gone on holiday.
Nag me, go on, tell me I had better improve or else. You know you want to!

Oi Missus!!!!....get your ruddy backside in gear!!!!:whoopass::whip:

Think of the helicopter ride!!!!!!

(Is that the type of nag you mean Barb?;):D....xxx)

Perfect Isis! Just perfect!

I have woken up in a much more positive mood actually and have reversed that gain and lost another lb already. So I just have to keep it going, stop slipping and sliding and yes, think of that flippin' helicopter!!!!!

Thanks Abz, I bloomin can, can't I! Totally sensible day today, even now I am sitting with a bottle of water, nibbling on a few sultanas!
I think getting on the scales this morning really did the trick, made me see I CAN lose weight, just have to keep up the momentum!
