I want to buy myself a exercise machine, rowing/running or skiing.
Only have room for 1 and would like to know which gives the best workout, best value for money etc...........
Don`t want to spend too much, i also want 1 that i won`t get too bored of.
Any ideas???????

If you only get one you will probably get bored of it anyway! Most equipment folds up for easy storage so you may find you have room for more than one item. Personally I'd go for the rower as I love them

these were the 2 machnes i was trying 2 pick 1 of.
Is elliptical the same as a cross trainer?????????

It's similar. I prefer a cross trainer because it has a bit of resistance in it. I find it quite hard to work up a sweat on my strider :)

You can get striders very cheaply on ebay, or check out your local freecycle, I've seen a couple on, and mine will be going on the Sunderland one as soon as I can afford a cross trainer!! :p

Deffo a cross trainer, bought mine for £600 from Argos and it's fab. Expensive, but if you've only got space for one thing, you want the one thing that does it all. I can highly recommend mine, it's just like the one that I used to use in the gym.

Mind you, I'm too knackered to use mine whilst in ketosis.

My mum bought me a lateral thigh trainer, which was fun at first, but then got boring and monotonous.. maybe look for something that you can do more than just the one thing with?

p.s. the lateral thigh trainer is now stored away nicely in the garage...

I use a versaclimber and i love it! Works both my arms and legs. It's v tiring though and doesn't half get a sweat on me...sadly i think thats how most exercise is! I think if i would choose a different exercise machine i'd definately go for a cross trainer because you can work on your arms and legs or just legs if you prefer =)

i have a treadmill, never used its a bloddy great clothes hanger though. oh and it doesnt fold so uses loads of space!!!

urgh treadmills...i just can't hack them! As soon as i've lost another 7lbs....im going swimming!

have to agree with you! theres nothing more boring than staring at the same spot, i just cant make myself run in public...maybe when im a little more confident! I like to exercise with music on, makes it a tad more fun i suppose =D

just found out a relative has got elliptical trainer in there garage, so i can have it for free...........that`s made the decision for me...lol
I would love to go for a run or swimming, but will have to wait until i`ve lost a stone or so.
Thanks for your help

Find a lovely park and go for a walk... best machine ever

Just want to tell you a problem I faced before I started to lose weight and wanted exercise equipment for at home. Most of the equipment you can buy has a weight limit! All the ones I wanted at the time I was too heavy for! Watch out for that

I always worry when people put stuff off until they've lost weight, it sounds like they're putting their lives on hold until they are x size, which is doing themselves short.

I've always wanted to get back into horse riding, and I set myself a goal of being below a certain weight before contacting a stables and asking if I can help with mucking out and things (it's good exercise!) so I can be around horses and get my confidence back.

That weight came and went, and a stone under that I contacted one. They were so lovely, friendly and welcoming, that I'm sure I could've contacted them months ago. What a waste of time waiting to be thinner!

I had other stuff put off until I lost more (skiing lessons and kayaking) but that's scrapped now, and I'm just going to do it - and have fun losing weight!

I know what you mean TG but sometimes it's about confidence. I would never have started karate when I was at my biggest simply because I didn't have the confidence then. I am still very aware that I am possibly the largest girl there but I'm not quite so worried as I would have been

Yup, it's definitely about confidence, but I think you can make yourself more confident by doing things that scare you.

My tendency is to avoid things which are uncomfortable or difficult, and it gets hard because once you start avoiding it makes it almost impossible to start doing it.

When you do confront your fears, it's never as bad as you thought, and it gives you such a boost. The more successful you are at difficult things, the more able you are to deal with anything life throws at you.

I think it's part of the cycle of weight gain as well, kind of 'retreat and eat', and when you stop retreating, you have other ways to feel good and don't NEED to turn to food.

That's just my psycho babbling thoughts though :D
