Lactose intolerant

Guenevere

Getting married July 2011
Hi guys,
My weight loss seems to be slow. I'm very overweight, and really expected things to go faster.
I'm lactose intolerant, and usually I avoid dairy products, I don't have to be too strict, and cheese is fine for example.
Eating dairy causes alternating constipation and the runs, and weight gain. Plus a tender tummy, all of which I've been having on LT.
LT is basically skimmed milk powder with stuff added, and does contain lactose! I did say it to my pharmacist and basically she verbally shrugged if that makes sense.

Any advice or any other lactose intolerant people out there?

Guen

Hi Guen, well done on your losses so far, I only seem to suffer with Lactose intolerance when my IBS is playing me up touch wood i've been ok so far.
Do you think you could carry on, and take something for the pain?
Sorry i can't be more help x

Hun your weight loss will vary week by week. You will naturally have good and bad ones. But if I am correct you are averaging 6.5lbs a week!!!!! That is bloody amazing! Almost half a stone a week! I really don't think you can expect to lose anymore! I am sorry but I have no advice about the lactose end of things but you could ring lipotrim themselves. I understand they are VERY helpful.

But you're doing GREAT! Just keep at it!

Theres two ways of looking at this guenevere, you weight loss may be slowing down for lipo diet but your still losing weight very quickly compared to a n other diet.

I dont know if cambridge diet cater for lactose probs, but I guarantee someone will tell you soon x

But remember you have lost more than 2 stones in 6 weeks, that amazing xxx

I suppose you're right!
Thanks for your help. I actually googled the Cambridge and they do actually have 2 shakes lactose free. If it doesn't improve I may switch, but the pharmacy is so convenient I'm reluctant to.

Office Girl
I'm the same with the IBS, & I was fine the first three weeks, until I allowed myself to get constipated, then the IBS flared up, and I started to feel the effects of the lactose in the shakes n weight loss slowed down.
How do you manage your IBS/lactose intolerance normally?
How are you doing on LT?
I got diagnosed only 8 or 10 months ago, after I first got stress related IBS.
I was told my IBS would reduce hugely or disappear if I got to a healthy weight!

I will definitly carry on!

If you look at my signature you can see I am not a fast loser, but much faster on Lipotrim than I was on WW. On WW it took me ten weeks to lose ten pounds.

Cambridge Diet which is similar to Lipotrim do lactose-free packs, perhaps this might agree with you better.

Love Mini xxx

Dont know if Im missing something here, I apologise if I am but you are just short of 2 stone gone in 4 weeks I would say that is amazing.
Just a thought but amputation is the next best thing for the kind of losses your achieving

I have stress related IBS too haven't had a flare up for 5years when i dropped fron 10st 2lb to 8st 5lb in a month.
My wedding is in 11 weeks so i'm trying to stay very relaxed at the mo, don't want a flare up before my big day!
Andrews liver salts beats all medication hands down for me!
hope you get it under control soon x

Hi Guenevere,

Thanx for the thread - this thread brought it home for me - i've suspected i'm lactose intolerent too and when i started having lactofree milk with my cereals (before LT), all my lacto-related probs went away! Like you I can have cheese without any problems - probly coz i don't have a lot - where as i used to love milky tea/coffee and used to have cereal twice a day. when i switched to lactofree the problems went away.

I told the chemist I hadn't been diagnosed but have lactofree and he warned me that LT is milk-based. Anyhow - like you my first couple of weeks were fine but since the latter part of week 3 I have been severely constipated - almost 2 weeks now - and like i said in another thread - I've tried fibreclear and senokot to no avail so I'm gona have dulcolax tonite. But this sort of makes me think it might be due to the fact that LT is milk-based hence the constipation!

Not keen on speaking to my chemist as he may stop me from taking LT. So unless I can find another diet that will give me the same loss as LT I'm gona stick to it - even if it means losing 2lbs or less a week - at least i know i'm losing. Not happy about the slow loss but atleast i'm not gaining.

Hi FTT,
Amputation! Finally, someone talking sense.
thanks!

Hi office girl,
Wow so weight loss does work! At least for you! Great! I never thought of liver salts, probably can't have them on LT, but afterwards they'd be great!
Thanks

Hi Newstarter
Ducolax cleared me out, but I was glad I was home the next day because it was unpleasant. Only take one whatever you do!!
I was in Tesco the other day and I noticed lactofree for the first time, I hardly ever go there! How is it? I was on soya milk for ages before lipotrim, but to be honest, never really got used to it.
Keep in touch about this, and let me know what helps and what doesn't help!
If worst comes to worst Cambridge lactose free shakes will help!

Guen

Hey,

I agree with gaz - i think your losses are great!! I dont think you have any cause for concern regarding the speed of your weight loss. You are doing really brillaint.

Hi Guen,

Right I had 1 dulcolax as soon as i got home this evening so hopefully it'll clear out before i get to work tomorrow!

Before LT I was having Lactofree for ages - it tastes exactly the same as normal dairy milk - pity they only do a semi-skimmed version as i used to prefer skimmed milk - but its defo better than soy milk or rice milk. and i had no problems whilst having it.

I'm going to give LT a go for the next couple of weeks until i go on holiday and then if i still feel bunged up and constipated i may think about switching to cambridge. Hopefully my pharmacist will let me stay on LT for the next couple of weeks - he may decide to stop it as i am not losing enough :sigh:.

I'll keep you updated with my progress - please let me know how you get on as well.. xx

Hi please can you let me know a little more info about your symptoms? Im not sure whether I suffer but certainly have some of the same toilet issues as you!

Thanks

Hi,

I was bloated a couple of times, and couldn't go to the loo. That was about it. Even dulcolax wouldn't help - and then I saw another thread about someone having problems with flapjacks so I swapped my remaining flapjacks for shakes and upped my water intake by a litre or so. dulcolax started working after that and I usually have 1 dulcolax 3-4 times a week. So not sure which one did the trick - getting rid of flapjacks (i miss them), upping the water or the dulcolax

hope this helps..
