hi all, i started ww last week(tried cd but didnt last a day!) and have been doing quite well,i never used to eat many sweets/crisps etc but do like a couple of drinks in the evening(spirits & D coke) so have been saving some of my points for this.is this ok to do? i dont really feel like i have lost any weight is it ok if i have say 17 points for meals then the rest for drinks? thanks in advance for your help x

Hi mylmat, my mate is doing WW, and has been on and off, for some time, she gets through quite a lot of vodka, and absolutely refuses to count points for it, she still manages to lose weight aswell! lol

thanks for that i have cut down a bit but still like a good drink! ,im not eating as much as i was before so hopefully will lose weight just by that.thanks again

I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but if you look at the eat wisely book, they recommend that you spend no more than 14 points per week on sugary food and alcohol.

What I would say is, if it's not affecting your weightloss right now, then keep going as you are, but if you find that it's starting to slow down or stop, then perhaps you should try cutting down on the alcohol.

I remember going to a RC class a few years ago, and the leader had a degree in sports science (or something like that)...anyway, getting to the point, she told us that when you drink a lot of alcohol, your liver prioritises cleansing that from your system and sidelines digesting your food for up to 3 days, depending on how much you drink, and during that time, all of the food you eat is automatically stored as fat!.

The best thing about the points plan is that it allows you to treat yourself in moderation to your favourite things. One or 2 drinks a night should be ok, but any more than that may be hindering your weightloss.

Oh dear, I sound terribly preachy, sorry about that, but I just wanted to let you know the information I was given.

Good luck with the weightloss!

Hey Delly, you are absolutely right! When you drink you have actually got to burn off the calories you took in from that alcohol before you start to burn off any other calories at all. So if you don't exercise the next day or the day after to burn off the booze-calories your body will just not burn your food calories...
Bad news for all of us really but important to know!

Hi lovey,i think its ok as long as we do it in moderation.
If you find out what moderation is could you let me know ha ha xx

after reading that, i must think about changing my weigh-in day lol

delly, thanks for that i started a week ago and have beencounting points,i havent eaten anycrisps/choc/sweets but have been drinking everyday!! and ive only lost 2lb(on my scales) so it must be the drink stopping me losing more,as i thought you lose more in your first week?!

mylmat,

I would say that maybe if you're going above the recommended 14 alcohol points you may have water retention or sluggish digestion, but to be honest, since you've lost 2lbs, I wouldn't worry about it. If your results slow down, I'd think about it then.

well i lost 3lb!!! not sure how i did it but cutting right down on my drinking this week and hopefully lose more next week.

Wow ! 3lbs off - well done. Hmm, it'd be interesting to see how you do if you cut down on your drinking - let us know how you're getting along.
