Sorry to sound thick but why does a gp have to sign a form for people with a bmi over 40 and not under?

whats the difference?

:D

If someone's bmi is over 40 they have a much higher chance of having a medical condition due to their size. These conditions may have gone unnoticed if they have felt healthy or ignored any slight problems and not been to GP.

When they go to get the forms signed their GP would take blood pressure etc. and in my experience in my area they take bloods to test for possible type 2 diabetes, thyroid and cholestorol levels.

I had a lady want to start the diet who hadn't been to GP for a couple of years, she found out when she went to get MRF signed that she had high blood pressure and when she got the blood results back, she was also a borderline type 2 diabetic! GP consented for her to start the diet and she goes monthly for checks. I'm pleased to say she is 3 stone down and blood pressure has dropped and glucose levels are stable:D
