Just thinking aloud!!!

I have been on SS+ for 6 weeks now and except for a few occasions i haven't found it too difficult (the first 4 days + good weather (BBQs)=hell:cry:). I have done a lot of mulling about my ever constant weight issues since starting CD. I mean, my fridge was always full of "healthy" choices - low fat spreads, low fat cheese, low fat salad dressings, low fat yoghurts etc. My "treats" were low fat crisps, low fat Healthy eating bars and so on. I made what i thought were healthy choices and kept to low fat. Yet i was still 4 stone overweight (even tried Xenical a few years ago - didn't lose any weight). I could never understand Why? I have tried every diet going and did lose 3 stone on WW (all on again!)How can i be sure this time that the weight will stay off? I am really worried about this but have to say that since starting CD i do have a greater understanding why my weight is an issue and where i have been going wrong. Also being on Minimins has really helped. If i feel a bit shaky i sign on and read about all the poor peeps who went off on a binge and it reminds me that i don;t want to feel like that. I haven't been a total angel and have had my fair share of picking (no carbs though!!:p)but reading the success stories and looking at the photos really keeps me motivated (eg Porgeous - what a star!!)
Couldn't do it without you all and that incudes my CDC - who keeps me on the straight and narrow when i am tempted.

Cheers everyone:D

At least with cd you will be able to work up the plans and re introduce food and your cdc will be helping you with the maintaining. You are doing fab look at the amount you have lost so far.The slideshow really keeps me going to esp when things are tough.

Unfortunately, low fat doesn't necessarily mean healthy.
I could never understand Why?

Because you probably ate too many calories. Darn annoying isn't it.

Low fat is all a con IMO. Usually they are full of sugar - have you seen the "fat free" logo on bags of marshmallows for instance.

I agree girls - the more "low fat" alternatives the fatter i got!! Am really going to re-evaluate my foods when i finish this - it might just be better to have a lesser bit of the real thing than opt for the lighter versions with more sugar. Food for thought it you excuse the pun!!:D

Hey Jaxie,

Its probably at the back of most people's minds that they may pile the weight back on. They say losing weight is easy but maintaining it is another matter. My strategy for maintaining my weight, when i've worked my way through all the stages of CD, is to use WW methods of maintaince. It would give me a sense of security knowing how much i'm allowed each day, because i'm one of those people who never know's when they're full... [present time excepted thanks to ketosis!]. It would also keep discipline over my eating habits i think.

Just because your fridge was full of healthy food doesn't mean that you'll stay slim, chances are you were eating too much of a good thing, literally. For example, pre CD, i did a brief spell at ww... [but CD appealed more due to the faster results]. I discovered that the foods i was eating pre dieting weren't necessarily bad, i was just eating too much of them. I got the biggest shock when i saw what the actual size that a portion of branflakes should be...

This is my first [and hopefully only time on CD] but i think working through the stages of CD will make us apprechiate food more anyway.

Hi Yvonne - Think the WW choice is a good one as you can really have a good variety of food and not feel deprived, especially if you're maintaining
(think of those extra points!!:D) I've been thinking about either that or SW (maybe not ideal with my bad portion control) or else just trying to maintain with Low GI) I have all the books so a good choice of reference!! (utter madness).

Have to say that i can't wait to get to goal- this will be the first diet that i have done where i know that i will reach the end (gave up WW coz i thought i could do it myself - NOT!!!).

Good luck yerself - you're doing so well!!

Another option is to continue using a CD product a day & continue seeing your CDC. I have a couple of maintainers who do this & they say they would rather have a CD bar & know it is giving them 1/3 of their daily requirements and knowing they are seeing me in a month keeps them on the streight & narrow (makes me sound like an ogre).

Another way that works for a lot of people is 5 & 2, 5 good days & 2 not so good - remembering to weigh to make sure the not so good are not outweighing the good!

The one way I do not recommend is using your clothes as you can have a lot ofgive before they start to feel tight!

Thanx Nicky - have also thought about this - My CDC did mention it. Have a bit to go yet so have a couple of months to consider - but that sounds like a good'un

:D

I felt just like that! At first I didn't believe it, but then when I got nearer goal, I started planning everything I was going to eat to maintain.

Think I had about 3 months of food plans all ready by the time I got to goal :D

Wow Kd,

What a fab loss!! How did the maintenance go? and are you still keeping it off? Am full of admiration!!:D

Thankyou :)

I'm finding maintenance brilliant now. Had a few hiccups in the head department, but haven't yet had to resort to a diet since finishing with CD  So far, so good.

My weight has remained stable all this time, except a 4 lbs gain after a two week holiday, and last Christmas (with an operation straight after). Both times, it came off just by being a extra aware of what I was eating, and questioning a little more about whether I needed certain foods or not;)

I'm dead chuffed. At the moment, I'm feeling really confident that I can continue like this. After battling with an eating disorder for about 35+ years, I actually feel 'normal' now.

Okay...not normal in many other areas:p, just foodwise.

Time will tell though.......:D

The key is to use the maintenance plans and slowly move up the calories. With any diet if you go back to your old eating habits you will put weight on.

You need to recognise these things and be aware of them.

I'm sure you'll be fine!

Thanks KD - Very inspiring - feel more positive now that i can keep this off!!:D

hey there - you are so focussed...i KNOW you will keep the weight off !!!

remember the 80/20 rule i talked about.....if you can make healthy choices 80% of the time, you can afford to have a (little) splurge 20% of the time....

doesn't matter how you lose the weight... if you go back to doing what you did to put it on in the first place, you will gain it again....you must make a lifestyle change to keep it off......

...and remember - you can get weighed every 4 to 6 weeks after you reach goal - even if you're not buying any products - NO CHARGE.......
