Sole Source and diabetes

Just got back from a week in Turkey, (not a brilliant idea as I have been fantasising about kebabs) and feel very smug because I took all my stuff with me and didn't crack under the pressure once. I now hope that it will be reflected in my weigh in on Monday. I had a disappointing week before I went away but I'm feeling hopeful. I am type 2 diabetic, has anyone else experienced the disappearence of symptoms while on sole sourse?

I don't know about the diabetes question, but wanted to say jolly well done to you for sticking to CD whilst on holiday! I hope the scales reflect your brilliance, and please let us know how you get on! xx

Im pre diabetic and control with diet, i had a couple of hypo on ss, you need to keep your water intake up and probably drink extra water. You may need to split your shakes down into 6 portions a day instead of 3, but on the whole my blood sugar control was and still is normal unless I have a naughty moment.
How do you find it?

Hello, I'm just ending week 5 on SS and after 2 weeks I came off my medication (Avandamet) and monitored my levels several times a day and have stayed inside the parameters since. I've also come off my cholesterol tablets too, I'm checking those levels on a weekly basis (5.99 a test, special offer at Boots) and they are fine. My CDC has advised me to talk to my GP but I'm feeling fine and everything looks good.

WOW, well done on staying on track with SS while on holidays :) That is amazing I am in awe and I really hope you are rewarded with a good WI for your efforts.

I dont know anything much about diabetes but I do think that if you are stopping your medication it should be in consultation with your doctor

I'm a type 2, currently SS on LL and am supposed to be on Metformin - I'll be honest and say that I've not taken a tablet for about 6 weeks now, rightly or more likely wrongly without my doctor knowing I've stopped. Reading this thread just prompted me to check my levels and it's 4.9 (only had a black coffee this morning) so I'm really happy with this.

I think I'll make an appointment with my GP and see if she says that yes I can stay off them - worth a try.

I do second Hedgehogs advice though that we should only really come off medication after the doctor has agreed it.

ss will lower your bloods anyway so you really should be monitored and if you were on the cambridge diet you would only be allowed to do the diet if you were monitored by your health care advisor and checking your bloods on a regular basis. You would also have to be registered with Cambridge. Lots of tight control over diabetes.

Thanks for the comments, I'm at a diabetes clinic next Friday so I can check it then. By the way, I had my weigh in last night and I was exactly 1 stone down on my previous wi two weeks before, made the deprivation on holiday worthwhile.

Update on my questions about coming off of my diabetes medication, I went to my diabetes clinic on Friday and told the doctor what I'd done..........she went loopy and put me straight back on! I won't go into all the details but I'll just say don't do it without talking to your doctor. I suppose it was pretty predictable.
