Hi ladies

I just wanted to ask a lady thing.

A few years ago me and hubby suffered 4 recurrent miscarriages and was tested for lots of things. My periods were very irregular being 7 or 8 weeks apart and was given clomid to conceive (bring periods every month), anyway me and hubby split a year ago after last m/c.

My periods up until starting LT were very rare, one of them being 6 months apart!, and they found out that i had poly cystic ovaries and was given metformin to help with weight, but i thought i would try LT instead. Since being on Lt my periods are now 2-3 weeks apart! Is this normal? whats happening? I think i am making up for lost time for not having them for so long but 2 and a half weeks apart! i hate it!!
Does anyone know if it does something to make you so regular!

P.s the periods since being on LT are completely pain free and very light so i cant complain.

Thanks xx

There are alot of post on here about periods (totm) it is a side effect of losing weigh so fast.... i think it is to do with estrogen hormones which are found in fat..so as we shed the fat..the hormone balance changes and we have irregular frequent periods... i wouldnt worry..hasnt happened to me yet..it probably will soon...annoying i know xx

Hi Kate - yes, I think it's quite normal for your periods to become very frequent on LT.

I will be on my 7th weigh in on Saturday, and I'm on my 3rd period since starting LT:(

im afraid im going to shoot that theory out of the water cause since starting LT in january ive had two periods in total!! missed altogether in april and now waiting for may's ..please god lol

sorry to hear about the miscarriages xxx i had three one after the other and was also given clomid and then had injections in the bottom every week for three months and finally kept the last two pregnancies (my daughters) so i do know how youve felt xx

in answer to your question, i think its really dependant upon the individual and LT might possibly speed up or slow down your periods but then again when a person loses a lot of weight over a very short time, it will affect you in that way anyway...ie. anorexics stop having periods until they come out of starvation mode

ill just be glad to get mine lol xxx

From Patient UK website

Factors that may affect the menstrual cycle NB:Fertility can return before the first period after childbirth.
  • Breast-feeding can delay the return of normal menstruation postpartum, particularly if exclusive and may form the basis for the Lactation Amenorrhoea Method (LAM) of contraception for the first 6 months of the baby's life.5
  • Rapid weight change - increase or decrease
  • Body weight below a certain level e.g. in eating disorders, particularly anorexia nervosa
  • Emotional stress e.g. fear of pregnancy/ phantom pregnancy
  • Significant Illness
  • Drugs e.g. hormones, cytotoxics
  • Combined contraceptive pill; this causes an artificial withdrawal bleed i.e. early menopause or pregnancy can be masked.
  • Normal menstruation can be affected by any failure of the clotting system in the body.

Oh yes hunni... i am every 3 weeks normally and since LT i have had them for oooo 2 1/2 weeks none stop up to now ....its a b'atch

Kate, I know nothing about LT and what is normal but I do have ovarian cysts. If you are being treated for PCOS then you should speak with your doctor about ANY change in your cycle however simple you think the explanation may be. I went from heavy painful periods to regular-as-clockwork 4 weeks apart and lasting only 3 days with very little pain. They said it probably was a result of losing weight and that I need to keep a diary and go for another scan and blood tests. I am not medicated though so you really should see your doc incase they need to adjust your meds
