Some health questions..

constantly confused
Hi, I'm actually on Lighter Life but know more people post on this bit so I'm asking for advice here first!

A couple of medical things are bothering me.

Firstly, my dizzy spells are supposedly down to low blood pressure. I'd like to know exactly how a VCLD causes low blood pressure, and what can be done to help it? I was advised to take some salt to help me retain water, because the water could be passing through me too quickly depleting my electrolytes. Google seems to indicate that dehydration is a cause of low blood pressure, but I don't see how I can be dehydrated when I drink so much water! Why would not eating make me more dehydrated than if I were eating?

My other question is about exercise. I've heard people say that on a VLCD there isn't enough protein to build muscle, but my Lighter Life counsellor says this isn't true. Anyone know the truth?

I've taken up exercising regularly (running) which I'm enjoying but it's making me SO hungry! If I'm not going to build muscle on the diet, I'd rather go into management early and get the benefits of the effort I'm putting in!

Can I just ask, how do you know your dizzy spells are due to your blood pressure? :)

Yes you can become dehydrated if you drink too much water, as it reduces the salts / eletrolytes in your body to dangerous levels and they are needed to keep your body hydrated.

Eating boosts your salts / electrolytes as well as providing your body with water so if you are drinking so much that you are diluting these too quickly then essentially your body is not holding on to water and just letting it flow through you without adding enough benefit

Do you drink alot of your water in a short space of time, or do you evenly space it out during the day?

Hi, thanks for the replies.

I suppose I don't know for sure that it's low blood pressure, the nurse that is supposed to come and take our blood pressure didn't turn up. It does get worse when I stand up quickly, but isn't restricted to those times.

As for water, I'm drinking the recommended 4 litres and spread that out during the day.

I think I'm going to go and see my gp about the dizzy spells, I've been reading up on low pressure and it does seem that it can lead to some more serious problems so I'm not going to take any risks.
