Upset tummy. Should I eat anything or not?

I've had a really bad problem with diarrheoa over the past 24 hours or so and really the last thing I want to do is eat at the moment as it seems to just be going 'in one end, out t'other'. I have been taking Imodium tablets but they don't seem to have kicked in quite yet.

I was thinking of having a CD shake a little later mixed with a banana (at least that way I'll be getting some vitamins and minerals) but wonder if that might not be a good idea now. Or maybe I should have a piece of grilled chicken or not have anything and just drink water instead?

Advice welcomed :)

When my kids were little was told to steer clear of dairy products - as CD has milk in, I'd not have one on those. Best methods was lots of water, banana's, rice, pasta or mashed potato.

Do hope you feel better soon Sharon. xxx

I always feel that when you have a poorly tummy (as in runs...or sickness), you need to follow your instincts. And no....it's not usual for the instincts to point to a box of Black Magic :D

But...banana is an excellent choice though. Hope you get better shortly. Bad tum...bad bad

Thanks Bev, it hadn't occurred to me that CD being dairy-based might be a problem but I suspect you're right. I hate mashed potato but might have some rice with a piece of plain grilled chicken. Would cous-cous instead of rice work do you think?

Well that's Plan A out of the window then ....

I might just stick to the banana and water after all and hope that Vesuvius stops trying to erupt in my guts :(

Dry toast or cream cracker would be safe. Tiny quantity though. Generally though I would be guided by your tum - if you don't fancy anything I'd give it a miss. Plenty of clear fluids are vital though so do your bets with the old water. Have you any Dioralyte in the house? Thats very good for re-balancing your electrolytes etc...

Hope you feel much better soon.

Love

Hi Sharon,

My Mum always used to keep me on water and Arrowroot biscuits, never questioned why! best to stick to the water and maybe banana.

Hope your feeling better soon xxx

Arrowroot for me too, and plenty of water or flat coke??

Many of my customers swear by flat coke when they have the holiday trots

Thanks Barb and Mandie

I'm beginning to think that just downing as much water as I can looks like the safest bet for tonight - unless I feel a lot better later anyway.

I've never heard of Dioralyte, Barb, but will look out for it tomorrow.

Thanks guys :)

I don't have any Coke (Zero of course) in the house at the moment .. flat or otherwise. So I reckon its plain H20 for me tonight :sigh:

Arrowroot seems to be a common remedy. Surprise, surprise - I don't have any of that here either

Dioralyte, cola etc is to get sugar, salt and water into your body that keep going to the loo may have taken away. A cup of water (warm or cold) with a teeny bit of salt, a little bit of sugar and anything to make it taste better - CD water flavouring would work just as well.

Hmm I must admit I was wondering about all the salt/sugars etc. I must be losing from my body too (the weight can stay off for all I care!).

It seems to have subsided to a dull roar at the moment anyway - so fingers crossed
