Diet Drinks/Aspartame. OK - now I am on my soapbox :D

Blonde Logic

Yes. You can.
This is very long - but it does tell you a lot of the horrible things they have found about drinking diet drinks, or regular use of aspartame....as said, its long, but only takes about 5 minutes to read. Certainly gives me the "hmmm factor".

This is a hoax website see ASPARTAME HOAX

People think it is clever to create sites like this because they have a grudge against a particular company or person.

The problem with the internet is that because it looks well executed, it becomes believable.

Now aspartame might not be good for you, but than again, it might be better than being obese - who really knows?

Cheers

I only sweeten with Sucralose (marketed in the UK under the tradename Splenda) as I low carb and it is the only one (along with stevia which is hard to buy in this country) that is recommended for low-carbing.

Thanks Mikey - I didn;t think to check Snopes or anything like that! Good on ya.

However, I do know that aspartame is extremely unhealthy. Of course so is being obese - but we cannot just always split things that are bad for us and ignore them just because being obese is unhealthy as well, if you know what I mean.

I will keep trying to find the article, which was a reliable source....there is something in Diet Drinks that make you crave carbs, and make you gain weight. Also, they are harmful to bones and as I am at a double risk of osteoporosis (one for having a hysterectomy when I was quite young, and one as having just been diagnosed with cervical osteoarthritis) - its worth giving up for me.

There was a time, when one of the ingredients of aspartame was Locktight - which is used in engines. So. Not really very healthy from the start.

Don;t get me wrong - IO am in no way a purist!! But I am intending to become more pure as the diet and lifestyle changes go on.

:)

BL OMG! Thanks for sharing that! It's funny as we were chatting about this yesterday! Thank you sooo much, have just printed a copy to show my mum, dad and sisters tonight! Will also show my Hubby soon!

I believe that the problem is in the fizzy part of diet drinks as your body leaches calcium to counteract the acid (at least I am pretty sure that is what I have read)

Stevia is the thing to use - I bought somne from a health shop in the states when I was out there last, but it does have a slightly odd taste and did not seem that sweet (though it is meant to be really really sweet)

Best thing is to get rid of the sweet tooth I guess (before they fall out anyway :) ) Though this diet with its heavy sweet bias does not help at all in this respect.
