How do you motivate THAT client

Coley

Re-starter
I have a client, she is fine, been coming for about 7 weeks now. Since she started she has not stuck to the programme at all. She keeps eating and it isn't like she is even asking for help....she just eats and doesn't even try.

I get a text tonight 5 mins before she is supposed to be here saying that she won't be here as she is going away for a few days. No sorry, no nothing. That is just flippin' rude.

I have sent her texts this week encouraging her and motivating her, but get nothing back and she is obviously eating whatever she likes.

Now this would be all well and good if she wasn't wasting my time and effort but she is and I'm confused why she came in the first place if she didn't want to change anything?

I'm pretty hacked off that she thinks she can treat me this way - she is older than me and obviously thinks I'm a little girl who doesn't know anything about stresses in the world and someone she can mess about.

I am seriously thinking of telling her to find another CDC who she has some respect for and maybe they can help. I'm at the end of my tether with her but I'm giving her one more week. What can I do to motivate her and get some respect?

I'm sure there must be other - erm... awkward? clients out there. How do you handle the situation?

I'm pretty hacked off right now :mad:

Hiya m8

Yes I have a few of these customers and to be honest it is part of the job! I have a lady who cancels, rebooks, cancels, rebooks etc etc again and again.

At the end of the day it isn't personal I am sure it just isn't her time at present to get her head round it.

If though she is funny towards you or being really difficult then of course you can ask her to go to another counsellor.

Some people just find the diet very hard.

I can only presume she is one of them.

Maybe its not lack of respect from her (although i dont actually know) but fear of not being able to handle it and letting you down.

Seems like you dont want to give up on her just yet - Maybe try and ask her about the 1000 Kcal diet plan. My suit her better.

If not or you have tried, then its time to cut loose. Dont send any texts and see if she responds.

Maybe, its not that she sees you as beneath her.

Maybe, she resents but really wants to go it, but she cant do this diet and is trying to let you down gently.

Alot of maybes there...

Just give her space. If she comes back - all well and good. If not, its no biggie.

Hi Nicole

Have you spoken with your sponsor about this - they maybe able to help you...

Hi Guys, thanks for all your replies. I have calmed down now, seen some lovely clients tonight so much happier.

I could cope if she would communicate with me, tell me she finds it hard or explained anything but she doesn't and thats what gets me. If she can't cope with it she should just not book any appointments, she's old enough to be a grown up and act like one.

I would ask her about the 1000 or other plans if I could get a hold of her but she seems to be avoiding me. I've not put her in for next week, half of me is peeved because I had people that wanted her slot and I had it reserved for her and then she doesn't turn up!

I know it's part of the job and I just have to live with it but I really do not react well to inconsiderate and rude people. I doubt very much she would do this to anyone else, why should she do it to me and why should I stand for it?

She managed LL for 4 weeks without a hitch and changed over to CD. I can only really presume it's me that has caused the lack of enthusiasm and willpower.

Will talk to my sponsor, but there is only so much I can do and I know that but it totally demoralises me when someone acts that way. I don't know what else I can do.

Again, thanks for all your helpful posts.

Dont worry or get upset Coley, its not your age at all. We all get clients like this. It is all part of the job I suppose.

There is a thread on here about "what is your CDC like". I wonder what would happen if we CDcs started a thread about what our Clients are like. LOL

Still we try hard to please and help them but some just cant be helped and I wonder why they want to waste their money.

Keep going Coley you are doing so well.

Pam (who is old enough to be your grandmother):)

This thought crossed my mind SEVERAL times over when reading that thread!!

Coley, sometimes you just have to take a step back and let someone decide whether they want it enough - it's her diet, not yours. Try not to take it too personally and remember you can only do so much. xx

I think it would be great to read a thread from CDCs about nightmare clients! Go onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn;) :D

I don't have any I'm afraid - all my clients are lovely and want it for themselves just as much as I want it for them!! ;) :p

Bolt of lightning coming your way!

Ah.....spoke to my sponsor who gave very sound advice, but I don't have to even put it in to practice.

The client in question has emailed me and told me she won't be continuing as her heart isn't in it. CLEARLY! Just wish she hadn't wasted her money and my effort for so long. So am now left with laverly bunch of clients and don't have to think about this one!! yey!! :D
