Exercise for people who cant do running/walking?

Hi all, im new to this site (and the whole dieting/exercise scene) but i like the look of what i see so far. :) What i would like to know and wonder if anyone can help me with this is what is good exercise to do for people who cant do running or walking. I currently have a problem *clears throat* down there which has recently turned chronic and makes it very painful to do any running or any longish walks. I want to exercise but the last time i tried a couple of weeks ago to an aerobics video i was in pain for about 5 days after. I need something that i can do without too much running or walking, preferably using the legs as little as possible. Any ideas? Would really appreciate it if anyone can help. Thanks :)

Right well i have problems with my ankles, feet, knees and hips lol .......and im only 21!!!!
I feel like an old woman. I love doing the shallow aqua classes at the leisure centre (you pay as you go) its aerobics in the water but great fun (i would never go near a set of bathers)

So i would suggest - shallow aqua or deep aqua where you excersise in the water with a floaty type thing tied to your waist.
Body pump as a class fun. YOu dont run or anything you sort of do a little routine to music with weights. The only leg things involved are squats and lunges but otherwise its just sitting or standing. I just use the smallest weights they have.
the bike that you put your legs forward (not straight down on) is good. you can pick a low setting and beacause its sitting down you dont feel like falling over.
The hand bike where you use your hands as the pedals.

Cant really think of anything else. If you join a gym or leisure centre they will make a plan for you taking all that into consideration. Let me know how everything goes....and good luck.

Honestly i think water is the way to go leg wise.....

I have lupus and major problems with all my leg and hip joints. Went to the gym the other night for a chat with one of the fitness instructors and they were more than pleased to see me. Most gyms are now getting what they call IFI (Inclusive Fitness Initiative) machines for those of us who are less able. Of course, as with all these things, sign off from your doctor is essential or they wont let you in!
I'm looking forward to my induction next week!
