tummy tuck

any one no the deal on gettin a tummy tuck on the nhs. ive lost over 6 stone and 21 yrs old and my belly looks horrendous!its like a big tongue just there. went to see personal trainer who said working out will help but it wont perform miracles. if the docs wont do it ill have to get a loan but just wondered if any one thinks i mite have a chance of gettin one on the nhs??

You can ask your GP to refer you (I believe they have to do this if they agree with you or not). Only problem is that it's a bit of a postcode lottery I'm afraid as to wether you can have it done on the NHS or not.
When I lived near Guildford I managed to get my chest reduction on the NHS (I was HUGE!!!lol). Where about are you Tina?

I don't know about your area I'm afraid. There is actually a forum somewhere on here about surgery after weightloss and you may be able to find someone on there that has had it done in your area. Other than that all I can recommend again is talking to your GP and asking for a referal (most of them tell you that they don't think it can be done on the NHS, I had this, but it's bacuse they've never been asked before).

Just wanted to say it can be done !!
I am based in middlesex and my friend has just had it done on the NHS hers was not throught weight lost but after having 2 children ,she had always been a size 8 !!! and was after babys,but had very saggy skin ,Her doctor said it could be done if it was getting her down, The Doc felt it was better then leaving it until she got depressed about it

So give your Doc ago,You may have to lay it on thick about how unhappy it makes you feel.

Some area's the NHS do waste more of its money funding tummy tucks,it's just a post code lottery, sorry to be so harst but working for the NHS i see so much money being wasted. Tonight on the ward we are short of such basic things for example, blankets, water jugs, pads, dressing gauzes, slide sheets, it's stupid how on earth are we to do our job properly without basic items. It's because the NHS are in so much debt and not using the money wisely.

We get bed blockers that don't want to go home, we have patients family members telling us "we can't have mum home this weekend, we're going away!" we have alcoholic's detoxing, the same patients every couple of months, people coming in with a headache but pop in & out for a fag every half hour!!!

Then the papers have the cheek to slag of the NHS but who always gets it, who's always in the fire line.....Us the ward staff!!!!! Not those ar*eh0les that sit in their ivory towers!!!!

It makes me mad.....sorry to rant!

Your first port of call is to go to your GP. Tell him/her how unhappy it's making you feel, and, if they believe it's having a psychological impact, you will then be referred to a surgeon.

The surgeon will examine you, and will recommend one way or the other whether you're a good candidate for surgery. He/she will then write back to your GP with the recommendation. Assuming it's a 'yes', your GP then writes to your local PCT to ask for funding. The final 'yay or nay' will come from them - if they agree to funding then the op will go ahead, if they don't then it won't.

After having two kids, spending most of my twenties very overweight, losing six stone on cd, then maintaining for two years, I went to my GP last year. My stomach is a mess, with a big wrinkly 'apron'. I was referred to a surgeon, who said I was a very good candidate, so recommended me. Unfortunately though, my local PCT turned me down, as they said they weren't currently funding 'cosmetic' operations. It's frustrating, as it really isn't cosmetic as far as i'm concerned!

I live in Coventry however, and I know there are other people on here who have had the go ahead from their local Trust, so it really is a postcode lottery in that sense. It certainly wouldn't hurt for you to go to your GP and give it a whirl.

When I get to goal I'd like to have one too. It costs around 6k so unless I get one on NHS I won't be having one there's no way I can afford that. Go see your GP you never know you might be one of the luck ones.
