Windy water flavourings

Loves VLCD's !
Hi,
I am new to MiniMins and finding a great source of info and inspiration, thanks everyone :)

Have been doing LL for 4 weeks and have lost 1 stone, 9.4 pounds and am VERY pleased. :D In week 2 the counsellor introduced water flavourings and I spent £9 on a pot of St Clements. I made up a drink as directed. I have never known wind and rumblings and actual physical stomach pain like it ! I thought I was going to have to go to the doctor but managed to get to sleep and was ok by the next day. The counsellor didn't seem to have much of an explanation other than that it contains pre-biotics and a refund wasn't offered

Has anyone else had this problem ?
Thanks
Melissa

Hi Meilissa,
great losses!!

I only tried the flavourings a couple of weeks ago and i too had bad stomache pains and very windy.....
Still use it but very minimally (about quarter teaspoon in huge mug) and usually only when i want a hot drink as not keen on black coffee.
I haven't had any more stomach pains when using it but still windy if i have a couple of mugs and others in my group complain too. Our consellor said it was the inulin(not sure if that's the right spelling!) which is fibre.
Have you tried reducing the recommended amount? Still adds flavour as i find it quite sweet after plain water.

I believe the LL water flavourings include inulin as one of it's ingredients (can someone check if I'm wrong please). Here's what I found out about inulin from Wiki:

"Inulin is used increasingly in foods, because it has excellent nutritional and functional characteristics. It ranges from completely bland to subtly sweet and can be used to replace sugar, fat, and flour. This is particularly advantageous because inulin contains one-third to one-fourth the food energy of sugar or other carbohydrates and one-sixth to one-ninth the food energy of fat. It also increases calcium absorption (PMID 16087995) and possibly magnesium absorption (PMID 12514257), while promoting probioticbacteria. Nutritionally, it is considered a form of soluble fiber, and it is important to note that consuming large quantities (particularly for sensitive and/or unaccustomed individuals) can lead to gas and bloating. Inulin has a minimal impact on blood sugar, making it generally considered suitable for diabetics and potentially helpful in managing blood sugar-related illnesses."

So it may well explain your reaction.

Maybe I am a bit sensitive to inulin then. Shame, it was so good to think I would have sherbert lemon type water for a change :(

I might try to use less and see how that affects me, good idea. With another 8 stone at least to lose I do like the idea of them to give me some variety

I don't have any experience of CD water flavourings. Are they the same kind of thing ? Would they be acceptable on a LL diet ? Also can you only get them if you are on a CD diet or can you buy them from somewhere ? I am new to this VLCD stuff and don't have any idea of any of it other than the basics of LL.

Hi Melissa,Cd water flavourings used to be sold on the "Pink site " but i dont know if they still sell them,if not then maybe one of the cdc`s can help u.
I am not very knowledgable about LL but i do know that quite a few peeps on LL used the Cd water flavourings.

I am sure some of the vlcd veterans will soon be along to offer u some more advice.
Take care

Sorry to be such a newbie but what is the "pink site" ? Also I keep seeing "the DH site", can someone tell me what that is too ? Taa !

Hey Melissa, dont appologise about being a "Newbie" we were all newbies at one time or other.
"The pink site" www.cambridgedieters.com is another site which has now been taken over by Cambridge diet or Cd.

Discovery health or "DH" is another site which has loads of different forums one of them being weight loss. www.discoveryhealth.co.uk

I am biased i have been on both of those sites and i think MiniMins Rocks !!

Take care and looking forward to hearing about your weight loss journey. xx

The CD water flavourings are very similar but don't contain inulin. You can generally purchase them from one of the CDCs on site (check out 'how to find a CDC' for one in your area). HTHs :)

Thanks for the info everyone. I have some CD water flavourings on their way to me now. Looking forward to having something else to drink. Think I will be keeping off the LL flavourings in the future though ! :)
