Milk Week - week 12 or week 13?

Blonde Logic

Yes. You can.
At the very last minute of class tonight someone said we were meant to do milk week this weel...the LLC said "Oh yes! Thats right" but then we didn;t have any time to discuss it.

The book says week 13, but we are just starting week 12. But I think everyone is going ahead with it, and the book said best if everyone does it together.

Would it make much difference if it was one week too early? Not sure what to do?

I know alot of people did not do the milk week, but as they reccomend it, I am going to - can't see one week of glycose (is that right?) stores, that will go the following week anyway, will slow me down much. So I think its a good idea for the body, so I am going to do it. Just not sure if I should go with what I understand in the book, or go now as everyone else is? It was very chaotic!!

lol - Any suggestions?

Those that did it - did it knock you out of ketosis? It says some do and some don't. Thats the only worry I have.

Thanks!

sorry BL, I didn't do it after a lot of discussion cos I was too worried it might knock me out of ketosis. I'm sure it won't matter if it's this week or next week. I know it's not something that has happened for a long period of time, just nice regulations... my LLC isn't too keen on it but has to advocate it :)

Hi BL
I didn't do it so can't help on that front. I knew I only had a couple of weeks to go before RTM and didn't want to slow things down, if I had longer to go I would have done it.
It was barely mentioned in our class though and we weren't asked about it at weigh in.

I would say do it at the same time as the rest of the class. I can't see it making much difference which week you do it.

I don't believe it should take you out of ketosis, but as you are consuming more calories it will slow your loss for the week, I would say.

I believe this is what you doo if you are continuing into developement. It is something the government plut in place as a condition for doing a VLCD over a certain period, CD have a add a meal instead b ut LL have just said up your calories by adding milk (mix your shales with it). However, it will take you out of ketosis... and who is going to know if you don;t do it. Just be wary that you will have to wean yourself off it after a week and go thorugh the hell of getting into ketosis again.

I would make sure you space the packs out more though, if you have 2 together made with milk that could put you out of ketosis.

Hi Blonde Logic, sorry for gate crashing the LL forum, but thought I'd add my experience from W8. Its also soups and shakes (444 cals a day), but we can have half a pint of skimmed milk from day 1. I'm on week 9 now and have had the skimmed milk pretty much every day and have always been in Ketosis.

Dont know if this helps any, sorry i dont know about LL though and how much you have, so not sure if it compares at all to W8.

Good luck. x x

There is a slim chance it takes you out of ketosis....not for sure - and I went in very eaily, so I am not toooooo too concerned about that....I agree with you Ali - as I am going to be doing this another 10-12 weeks after, or longer - I am inclined to do it. I know VLCD can be hard on the system, so my health is more a concern then getting to goal a week early. If like you, I were only a couple weeks away from RTM, I would skip it.

Weening myself off it would be a non-issue to be honest...giving up fodd was more difficult and that went pretty easily....so that should be OK.

Thanks everyone!

I cant comment either BL as I hve never done it or it hasnt been mentioned either. No of us in our group did it.

I've got another 7 months on this and I don't intend to do the milk week at all ... I don't want to risk getting out of ketosis and losing the focus... not doing it can not damage my body half as much as carrying all my weight did... that's my take on it anyway :D

I don't think there is enough in milk to knock you out of ketosis for more than an hour or so if that. I don't think it would take you out that far.
It isn't going to be like starting again from scratch at the end of the week, I don't think you are going to notice that much.

LL choose milk as you can add it to shakes and it isn't like eating something extra, I think adding a meal like in CD would be dangerous, for me anyway. It will also be easier to stop having it again.

I think you will be fine BL. I just wish they supported you through it more, it is just mentioned in the foundation book, we were given a leaflet at the start and no mention of it after. Not really good enough I don't think.

No, I agree Ali - it was just sort of talked about as we were putting on our coats and leaving. i emailed my LLC to see what she says.

Thanks!

I quite like the idea of it - a white tea or coffe will be nice for a once or twice treat. :) I like it black too, so it won;t be a threat....willl just taste nice. :)

i dont like milk :)
just thought id add that!
xxx

I am supposed to be doing this next week but my LLC said it was an option and if I didn't want to there was no pressure. I am worried that I wont want to go back to having the shakes with water , but I do miss a nice cup of tea.. I am thinking of not doing it, I am doing ok on this diet and I don't want milk ( one of my biggest weaknesses ) to stop me.

milk is a huge weakness of mine too Gazz and that's one of the main reasons (that and fear of coming out of ketosis) why I didn't do the milk week... I just didn't feel it was worth derailing my efforts :)

if milk doesn't knock you out of ketosis why are we not allowed it in tea or coffee?

I reckon it is because the whole point of LL is to abstain - to remove the whole food/drink issue from us while we work it out. All our nutrition is providee in the packs, so theoretically we don't "need" the milk in our coffee/tea. So it is excluded along with everything else.

and this is VLCD - milk can have quite a few cals in it, half a pint of skimmed would add about 100 cals onto our daily total.
