Coke vs water

Jubbly

Yo-yo dieter here for the gazillionth time
I'm sure most of you will have seen this email before (I've had it a few times) but it still amazes me!! In fact it's probably on another thread. As if you need any more excuses for drinking more water....

WATER

1. 75% of Americans are chronically
dehydrated.

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism
is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's
metabolism as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight
hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied
in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime
fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10
glasses of water a day could significantly ease back
and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger
fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math,
and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on
a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases
the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash
the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%
less likely to develop bladder cancer.

And now for the properties of Coke:

1. In many states (in the USA ) the highway
patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to
remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of
Coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola
into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit
for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in
Coke removes stains from vitreous China .

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car
bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of
Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery
terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the
terminals to bubble away the corrosion

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth
soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several
minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of
Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in
aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the
ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the
drippings to mix with the Coke for sumptuous brown
gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can
of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add
detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.

9. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.

For Your Info:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric
acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in
about 4 days.
Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from
bones and is a major contributor to the rising
increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate)
the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material
place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of Coke have been using it
to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is...
Would you like a Coke or a glass of water?

Shame they cant make water with a hint of coke for us addicts

Brilliant!

I used to be "addicted" to coke, couldn't get through a day without at least 2 cans of the "diet" variety. One of the things I am most pleased about in doing this diet is that I no longer crave coke :)

I saw a bit of childrens television Science programme yesterday on teeth.

They were saying that the only drinks that don't damage the teeth in any way were still water and milk.

Another reason to guzzle the pure stuff :)

Thanks Jubby for posting this - I'd never seen it before. It's horrifying...

I must cut and paste it and send it to my sister as all her family are addicted to the stuff..

Does anyone drink the Coke Zero - does that also have the phosphoric acid in it? I have to admit to drinking a glass of that at night when I'm cooking for my son - it stops me from picking.

xx

These are the ingredients as listed on http://www.thezeromovement.org/coke_zero_ingredients.html (clearly a website that doesn't approve of Coke!!). It does have phosphoric acid in it but no citric acid or sugar and that's why I have been told it's OK on the diet (there appears to be a lot of conflicting information on this though if you look at previous threads. I have been drinking it ocasionally with no problems though for what it's worth!!):

Carbonated water
Colour (150d)
-
aka "Sulphite Ammonia Caramel"
Food acid 338 -
aka "Phosphoric Acid" (Also used for rust removal!)
Food acid 331 -
aka "Sodium Citrates" (Also used in photography and as an anticoagulant of blood stored for transfusion!)
Flavour
Sweetener 951 -
aka "Asapartame" (According to the US FDA, "the [National Cancer Institute] currently is studying aspartame and other dietary factors as part of a larger study of adult brain cancer." You might want to wait for the results before you drink it. Also, avoid this one if you're moody!)
Sweetener 950 -
aka "Acesulfame Potassium" (Looking for reasons to avoid this sweetener? Look no further...)
Preservative 211 -
aka "Sodium Benzoate" (Undiluted this stuff isn't too bad... Just don't let it touch your skin!)
Caffeine

I used to work for Trebor Bassett and I always said I'd never eat a sweet again once I'd been in the factory......

I don't over indulge on Coke and in the past I've only ever allowed my son to drink it if we go to a restaurant... might give it a complete miss now though...

Cheers jubby you've certainly opened my eyes.

Ummmm and people wonder why I refuse to let my children drink this stuff. They're only allowed coke on very special occasions.

What amazes me though is when you seen parents giving babies teated bottles filled with coke - it's shocking
