Do I have stretch marks? Well -just call me stripey! I have them allover but the ones on my tum are up to 2 cms wide. Now this does not bode well for skin tightening ( i'm thinking ahead here folks) so have looked at the tumy ntuck threads. Vedry inspiring ( if Mr NHS can helpme out coz I totallly can't afford to pay myself) and the arm lift section. I can see very impressive tt results ( well done Sian) but how do youget rid of stretch marks?I beleive you used toget them sanded off ?Anyone know/had it done/got pictures to show??

have u considered using bio-oil.
ive started using it regularly now. ive used it in the past when i had my appendix out . i was told it would reduce the appearance of the scar and it definately did. it also works on stretch marks.
just massage into the affected areas once - twice a day and u will soon see fading. it wont completely remove them but they will fade nicely

Hi

I get my Bio oil in Sainsburys - they do 2 sizes . I get the big one and think it is £14- 15 . I think they also sell it in Boots.

you can get it at most chemists and supermarkets, it costs quite abit, if I remember its £8 for 50ml.
I justified it by buying it with the weekly shop, thinking that none of the food i was buying was for me so i deserved a little treat. It goes not really nicely, its alot lighter than baby oil and the smell is pleasant, not over powering.
It has been round for a few years, I have only just started using it and my scars a v old, so I dont know if it actually works, but there doesnt seem to be any alternative!
good luck with everything xxx

Thanks for this. I have started using the bio oil but think I need someting more- like an industrial belt sander....

Hiya i dont know if this is any help to you but when i was 18 i had a blood clot in my leg and was put on warfarin and had a bad reaction to it which caused my to create too much collagen i think and basically my body was covered in zebra striations some almost 1.5cms wide i got them on my elbow ben my kneecaps the tops of my breast and all up my back now it was 7yrs ago now and you can hardly see the marks atall they've gone all very lightly silvery and u can only see them if you're close up and ive gone from not daring to bare my arms to not giving a damn and when i'm svelte i'll be on that beach in a bikini even covered in my thick stretchmarks coz it'll be a huge reminder of the long journey i've come through

take care hun xx

This micro dermabrasion sounds like the jobbie- anyone had it done/know how much it costs?

isnt microdermabrasion the thing they do when you have a facial peel and all your skin basically peels away to reveal the new skin underneath? i can see why they would suggest this altho as stretch marks are basically scarring and not just surface skin (otherwise when your skin dies and replaces itself as it is constantly doing the marks would disappear) I dont think removing the surface skin would actually remove the stretch marks, although they may well reduce the appearance and redness of them.... maybe someone in the know could comment better than me but these are just my logical thinkings! xx

Bio oil works great. It won't be immediate but it does work. When I first did LL i started using it and it really did fade the marks on my back. I'm starting to use it again now. I recommend using it all over tho cos as the weight drops you start to see stretchmarks where u never thought you had them before!!

Yes micro dermabrasion wouldn't remove them completely but would help with the circulation therefore getting rid of the redness, and would tighten the skin to make them thinner and less intrusive.

As far as cost goes it's not cheap, I think it's about £50 a session and who knows how many sessions each individual might need?! I didn't go ahead because I'm a student at the moment, but in the future I think I might opt for a course of this. I went for a free consultation at one of these clinics: www.sknclinics.co.ukand they were really good so maybe there's one near you?

Thanks for all the replies- it seems there are some options after all.
For now I've ordered a vat of Bio Oil
