Cocoa

What cocoa can be used, please, now the tesco one is discontinued? I am entering the cruise phase this week and was looking forward to my chocolate fix?????

The Tescos one is discontinued?! The swines!! That's the one I have, but at less than a tsp a day it does last a long time.

I had a look into this for you to see what I could come up with - they sell the one on the DD website, but it is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE!

So I compared a few:

Tescos Reduced-Fat (discontinued - but I wanted to compare...) Per 100g
Fat: 11g
Carbs: 14g (sugars): 1g
Protein: 24g
Cals: 250

Green and Blacks Organic
Fat: 20g
Carbs: 40g (sugars): 0g
Protein: 20g
Cals: 320

Bournville Cocoa
Fat: 21.7g
Carbs: 10.5g (sugar): 0g
Protein: 21.3g
Cals: 355

Dukan Cocoa (it's more than 7 quid!!!)
Fat: 1g
Carbs: 11.7g (sugars): 0.6g
Protein:24.9g
Cals: 239

Supermarket Cocoa (Sainsbury's)
Fat:20.7g
Carbs: 8.7g
(sugar): 0.5g
Protein: 19.8g
Cals: 358

It's bizarre. A friend just came back from Madagascar and brought me some actual Cocoa beans... how can grinding up the same beans produce such different results!?!

So it's your call if you wanna spend on the Dukan one. Personally, when my supply runs out, I'll probably go for something like the green and Blacks, because it tastes good, then just have it once every two days.

Other tips - I've been using alot of cinnamon lately and it's pretty good for yogurts and porridge (where you might have wanted to used cocoa). Also it's supposed to be an appetite suppressant, which is always good.

I'm sorry I haven't been much help. I do have one bit of advice though for those chocolate cravings..., I was just in the UK and when I was in a health shop I bought some Yogi Organic Choco Aztec Spice Tea. They are amazing. And No calories :) Yippee!!
I just bought them in a generic health food shop, but they sell them in Holland and Barratt ;) and less than 2.50

Ooh, just went to the H&B website to check the tea price and they have Cocoa there which has a comparable fat content to the old Tesco's one. Blooming fiver tho...

Supernutrients Organic Cocoa Powder | Holland & Barrett

Supernutrients Organic Cocoa
Fat:9.5g
Carbs: 29g
(sugar): 1.5g
Protein: 26.8g
Cals: 309

Thanks very much, I have been to Asda today and come to a similar conclusion. I have bought the G&B one and will use only 1 tsp instead of 2!!! I wonder if you would mind explaining something about the tolerateds, I have just entered cruise and printed off a list of allowed T's and at the top it says limit to 2 per day. But then in the list it limits various things to 3 per day?????? So I am even more confused now lol. Also is there a flavoured fromage frais that fits into the eating plan at all? Thank you for the help it is much appreciated.

Just finished day 5 and total weight loss 6lbs. Still fudging through with the tolerateds but something is working I suppose. Haven't come off the waggon yet so good so far.

hello there Vix2000,

The official line re tolerated foods is to have a maximum of two a day IF you're content with your weight loss. Often it's better to keep well away from them at the outset of your diet (at least on a daily basis) so that you have something to incorporate when/if boredom sets in!

However, things do keep changing and so, if you've now seen something re 3 a day, could you post a link here please so that we can take a peek? Thanks!

x
Most people recommend using Total 0% yoghurt and flavouring it yourself. What flavoured fromage frais have you found and where (link?). I know you need a magnifying glass with you when you go shopping!!

I'm glad Jo was here to answer, don't really understand the tolerated lark.

Like she suggested, I just have them occasionally - though I usually have a tbsp of Wheatbran in my galette - y'know to keep things moving ;)
