Hello everyone :)

I am at the start of my Slimming World journey, I found this website whilst googling syn values, and joined as it looks a great place for support, ideas etc.

Today is day one, and I spent all day yesterday researching and figuring out how I am going to do this! I have about 8 stone to lose, so I have a long way to go, but hopefully SW will finally be what works for me. I have had a lot of weightloss failures, but this time I am feeling far more positive than I have in the past.

I look forward to getting to know my way around and meeting everyone :)

Hello I started SW on Sunday and I am doing it at home. I was a bit sceptical at first as not weight and counting calories just sounded weird but I get that its about changing your eating habits and making healthy choices and that its supposed to be a life long style change rather than a diet but I still look at the info and go "hmmmmmmm"

So far I am trying to cook more, make smart choices and keep it varied. I had a terrible eating pattern.........no breakfast, lunch if at all would be sometime between 12 and 3 then big dinner and some choccy. Now I am doing breakfast, lunch and dinner and trying to be organised!

Hope your journey continues to go well!

Hi welcome along to minimins. You’ve come to the right place for tips, support and advice. We’re a happy little lot who love to share.

Top tips are keep a food diary right from the very beginning as this is what will get you through this and help get the SW plan in your head. Knowing in advance what you are going to eat takes all the guess work out of everything. If things go slightly awry, then you have something to look back on to see where adjustments could be made and if you ask for advice through this platform, it's the first thing we will ask to see.

Following someone else's food diary on here or looking at the threads what's for breakfast, lunch, tea etc or the many, many recipes will certainly help you to avoid the repetition in your diet and expand the variety of things you can find to eat.

There are also a number of weighing groups which are either by weigh day and I think there is one for people who follow SW at home, which is good way to share your experiences, spur others along and to feel part of a group and get to know some of the others.

Finally, I would say trust in the plan it does work. Eat your syns and don’t cut back as it doesn’t work that way!! I’m sorry that I’ve rambled on but I hope that will give you somewhere to start and good luck with everything :D

Thank you for your replies :)

So far I am nearly a week in of doing the plan properly. I joined a group on 19th June (as 2 of my work colleagues were going), then went on holiday for a week. I ate loads of rubbish, and there was alcohol involved, but, at weigh in on Thursday (3rd July) I had maintained, which I so pleased with. I was convinced I would gain, it's a shame I didn't weigh myself just before I started following the plan to see if I had gained when on holiday.

I am enjoying SW so far. I have made sure I plan my meals, then everything is cooked from scratch. I was quite surprised by just how much I can eat. I have been keeping a paper food diary and using the SW LifeOnline website, and some days in the freefood section it looks like I have eaten loads! So I am still trying to get my head around that.

I will definitely have a look at other people's food diaries for inspiration, breakfast is my biggest downfall, as I have never been a fan of conventional breakfasts, or even having it in the first place.

Excellent advice ^^^^

There is also a thread on here somewhere for breakfast ideas, I suggest you start subbing to peoples diaries for ideas.

Breakfast doesn't have to be cereal, toast etc, Friday I had savoury semolina (syned) & egg curry for breakfast!!
