Nervous Newbie

Well here goes nothing ...

joined my local class today and as of tomorrow I'll be eating the slimming world way

must admit I'm very nervous at the prospect of eating unlimited foods when trying to loose weight

tomorrow my plan is: 350ml skimmed milk for HEA and 2 slice whole meal bread for HEB, have poached egg on toast for breakfast, morning snack of berries with 0% fat Greek yogurt, lunch will be a baked potato and beans with a side salad, afternoon snack will be a banana on toast, dinner will be spaghetti bolognese ... How's that sound?

Don't forget to add your syns in. The first few weeks I was using the full 15 but as of today I'm cutting them down to 10. Fill your Bolognese with superfree veg, any extra leftover can easily be turned into chilli for another night. Eggs are free and filling, don't be afraid to eat as much free and superfree foods as you want. If you stick to plan you will lose weight. And water and herbal tea is your friend! Hope you enjoy it and don't forget to update us on your weigh day :D

Hi welcome along.

Make sure you aim to get the 1/3 superfree in where you can and work out and add in your daily syns. Don't cut back at this stage, go with the full 15 to begin with and eat well. Cutting back at this stage does not work!

Top tips are read, research, write, plan, plan and plan some more. Keeping a food diary right at the very beginning is what will get your through this and help get the SW diet in your head. Knowing in advance what you are going to eat takes all the guess work out of everything. If things go slightly awry, then you have something to look back on to see where adjustments could be made and if you ask for advice through this platform, the food diary is first thing we will ask about. Following someone else's food diary on here or looking at the threads what's for breakfast, lunch, tea etc or the many recipes available on here will certainly help you to avoid the repetition in your diet and expand the variety of things you eat. I hope that will give you somewhere to start and good luck with everything. Trust in this plan, I know it seems like you are eating too much, but it does work. Good luck with everything :D

Welcome to the forum, yep it does seem odd eating lots & losing weight, but SW does work, just stick with the plan & you'll see the results.

Have you thought about starting a diary on here? I found that helps me keep on track & focused.

Well. Day one seems to have gone well. Although I am conscious that I have been eating all day and feel quite bloated. Still feeling very nervous.

I know exactly what you mean. I did SW about 17 years ago and have just gone back to it and I don't remember eating this much before! I have just had to 'force' myself to eat a couple of Babybel as my HE.

I do remember it working years ago so I guess I will just have to trust it. It seems particularly weird as I have really cut back on the calories recently and not lost a single pound so to eat this much just feels wrong!

Thank goodness I'm not the o lying one thinking that I'm having to force myself to eat!

Definitely keep a diary to make sure you're sticking to plan and trust the plan works when you stick to it properly.

lunatuna, I don't think you're you should be forcing yourself to eat although it's better to have your HEs for their health benefits. And it may be that you haven't been eating enough calories as that can send your body into starvation mode where is holds onto fat because it thinks food is scarce - it's an evolution thing!

I can still remember my first week. I did nothing but eat and didn't really think it could possibly be working, however it did (and is still working). I was amazed with at my first weigh in and I still can't believe how much I am able to eat. As the others have said, stick with it and make sure you use your syns. Keeping a food diary is really helpful in the first few weeks while you are getting used to it too.

Good luck :)
