Well I'm biting the bullet and joining group tomorrow. I've admitted u can't do this alone. 7 stone alone is too much. I'm not a fan of group as I don't like the whole happy clappy vibe and tend to stay away if I have a bad week. But 7 weeks till my hols and I'm going to give it a fair what till then. Go every week and stay ! How long does group usually last ??? Wish me luck I'm going to need it. Look forward to getting to know you all

Group usually lasts an hour, but it flies in. I really do think attending does help boost my motivation and I'm always leaving with new ideas for meals. If you have a bad week still go. Nobody will give off because you had a bad week. I've lost just under a stone and a half and I want to lose another 7 which is very daunting.

Good luck, you'll be fine. To be honest I like staying to group, its only an hour and I've made new friends I didn't know before. Good luck on your journey :)

I know what you mean about the happy clappy thing..and for the first few weeks my cynicism and 'britishness' found it all a bit much..but I'm with superfree princess on this. Losing weight is hard..if it wasn't then we'd never be the size we are..and when we do well its nice to be congratulated. But it's even more important for me to stay to group when I've had a bad week and I'd seriously recommend you make yourself stay. ..cos group puts that into perspective too. At my group (and I'm sure all others) if I've put on or sts 'my loss so far' is congratulated too. I need that as I'm a "well sod it then, what's the point I may as well stuff my face if I put on a 1/2 pound this week after being good all week" and before you know historically I'd have put it all back on and some more. But by being told " yea, you've had a setback but overall you've lost x-stone and next week i'm sure the scales will show.. " (clap clap) has kept me on the straight and narrow (with a few little blips!!) And I know without the support of those people at group that night (and the secure group facebook page, with its recipes, motivation, silly jokes etc between group nights) has meant that I've lost 5st 3.5lbs so far (approx 2st more to lose). Stay to group..you won't regret it x

Thanks guys I'm defo going to stay to group. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and keep stopping and starting, joining group but never staying. Losing half a stone and then think why am I paying someone to weigh me I can do this on my own and obviously can't.

I go to group most weeks. Sometimes if I have a had a gain like this week I did chicken and go to another group next day. Silly really, just how I feel sometimes.

I don`t lose good because I don`t stick to it. The last 7lbs I have lost probably 3 times. I should have gone to my own group because they do motivate me at the time. It is lovely to get a clap and smiles when I losem but it does sometimes get on my nerves when it goes on for so long. My group is 1.1/2 hrs but we do get a lot of food inspiration.

I really do know that if I stopped going I would weigh lots more than I do now. One thing I would say, don`t sit down in the middle of 6 empty chairs, that feels awful. Try and go and sit next to somebody or even leave a one chair gap. Ask how that person got on today, you will be surprised how much people want to talk.

You may find somebody you relate to in the beginners talk, even better, but try and talk to others as the weeks go by, they will become friends if only for the duration of the class. I look forward to hearing how you get on over the next few weeks.

Good luck Keegan.

That's my problem too. Third time joining (technically 4th but last time I found out I was pregnant later that evening so didn't bother) and I always think I'm wasting money to be weighed but I can't do it on my own without going to group.

Well I did it I walked in group by myself and joined ! All planned for tomorrow and looking forward to it. Even got chatting to someone which us soooo unlike me xxx will update you all

Group is not for everyone, but it's a good place to begin and get your head in the right place. Have you thought about a 6 week countdown?? This is how I started. I thought, well I've paid, so I'm going!!:D

Yes, I too hate the clappy round, the slimmer of week (manky brown 'nana award etc) the stampede for the WI etc, but I think for some people they find the groups invaluable and if that's what works for you then it's worth every penny. If you can then manage to go it alone then great, but it's not for all, you have to be extremely strong willed to manage alone at home. Make sure you give it lots of thought and good luck with whatever you decide.

I've tried to follow SW by using my mums old books for years, however I would last a week and soon fall off the bandwagon! Since joining a group in January i've never lost my motivation, loss or gain. I've now made friends from my group and my consultant and I'm also apart of the social team helping out with the shop! Its not only a slimming club but a social network, I love it!

Good for you! I think the main thing to remember about groups is that they are all different. I have been to several different groups (one closed down, one the day changed and I couldn't make it, one I just did not feel that I "fitted in"") and the one I am in now is the best group I have ever been to. The consultant is sensible, funny and down to earth and the other people are really friendly. So - if the one you're attending is not the right fit for you, try another one before you decide that it is the group thing itself that doesn't suit you.

Our Consultant checked out who had lost weight & continued to loose over a long period & almost all of them were the members who stayed in group each week!
I also don't like the happy clappy but it's part of the plan. Also you get to talk with other members, learn about the new products that have appeared, what syns have been changed due to manufacturers revamping their recipes, the taster nights, books, Hi-Fi bars ect. There's more to a class then just somewhere to get weighed!

I recommend staying to group to all, I get hugely embarrassed when it's my turn to share my week, but I now do shop and occasional weighing too. I find the tips really helpful and chatting with others is great too.

plus you can get books, hifi bars and everyone is there for the same reason at the end of the day :)
