What to do?

I'm in a terrible place.

Need to lose weight and tried every plan possible.

I need to find the right plan that I can stick too.

Any ideas?

Hi sammy

I know how you're feeling. I've been stuck between 12-13 st for about 3 yrs :( I don't know if it's my motivation or what, I do Sw for a few weeks and lose around 1lb a week on it and get so fed up. Tried ww and was too hungry just couldn't do it. Tried Lipotrim (VLCD), lasted a few days and felt so ill.
The last time I was successful was 10 yrs ago, before I had my son. I got down to 9st easily, I was so strict with myself doing Sw and breezed through it, but it seems so much harder now.
I don't really have any advice though. In just trying calorie counting and excercise and will see how that goes.
Good luck with finding something that works :)
I've recently been reading about the Harcombe diet , which sounds good but ultimately unsustainable for long term. I also bought a book off amazon called ' say goodbye to overrating' by Gillian Riley. I'm about halfway through it.
Also another one lol, try googling The Gabriel method. That sounded interesting to me, but very vague on telling you specifically what to eat x

Personally, I don't think you can beat calorie counting in terms of flexibility, portion control etc. I've lost 10.5 stone in the last few years doing it, so I suppose I'm a bit biased, lol. I can also recommend the Gillian Riley book referred to above - I read it a few times a couple of years ago, and, although I didn't adopt all of her recommendations, I did take quite a lot away from it.

Good luck with whatever plan you choose. :) xx

Hi tracy
Hope you don't mind me asking a quick question?
When you do calorie counting, do you notice you have the same losses eating for example, 1500 cals of 'healthy' food, as opposed to 1500 of convenience foods?
I'm so use to slimming world so it's strange being able to eat things I actually want to eat ( within moderation)

Of course I don't mind, ask away! I'm afraid I only eat convenience food, lol. All my evening meals are calorie counted ready meals from the Tesco Healthy Living range, to which I add frozen veg. I have a chronic health issue, and osteoarthritis in both knees, so with working full time I just don't have the energy to either exercise or cook! Bad, I know, but it's how things are, lol. So I really don't know how my losses would be if I ate "healthy", because I never have!! :) xx

Thanks Tracy :)

Have you tried the lowlow ready meals? They're not bad, think they're only £1 each in asda, really small though x

I haven't tried those, no. I only shop online with Tesco, as I can't walk round the shops, so I stick with their stuff. The ones I have are 450g, so a decent size, especially with added veg. :) xx

HI Both,

Thanks for both of your feedback. I am inclined to stick at calorie counting but never follow through despite my best intentions. I think whatever approach I use it doesn't work at the moment because I am not working. I have read the book that you both have recommended. In the last week I have attempted to try two different plans and gave up as I feel miserable all the time.

I think the biggest thing for me is that I lost control and extremely devastated that I have gained two stones in the last few years (one stone since November). I have lost a lot of weight and got to 11st 4 in 2004 and maintained though I wanted to lose more. I haven't been in the position of losing a lot and then gaining a lot. I was heavy for years and then lost a chunk of weight. I keep reminding myself I can't change the past and need to lose the gained weight to lose new weight but I can't seem to move on.

My current experience reminds of the past. I don't feel like going out, don't feel good, wearing the same type of clothes, avoiding exercise etc. If I am not careful I will be back at my heaviest weight again in no time..... I was 15st 9 and got to 11st 4 and I am now 13st 5. This is awful I look fat now where before I could be smaller but ok. I have lost tone on my body and the comfortable clothes are not helping the cause either.

I go on holiday end of August and like all trips and events I am never comfortable, never at my desired weight, the need to reduced food as dreading more likely gain and ending up gaining on the current gain.

Don't know what else to say or do. I think this post says it all.

I know how you feel, hon - I've yo-yo dieted like a madwoman for 30 years, and got to the point where, for years, I couldn't face trying to lose it again, and resigned myself to being middle aged and morbidly obese. I'd love to be able to tell you what suddenly clicked for me, to make me able to start again and stick with it, but it's pretty much a mystery to me! But I did go to my doctor for help, and I think seeing her regularly helped keep me on the straight and narrow in the early days. Good luck with whichever plan you choose. :) xx

I Quit sugar and refined carbohydrate, it's the hardest thing I've ever done at the start, but after the withdrawal it's been the easiest diet to stick to!

Hello there, I think when someone says that last line they are at their lowest, I feel exactly the same, instead of thinking a diet is a bad thing, and your being restrictive, see it as a positive, everyday you stick to your calories you're a day closer to throwing some clothes on that feel good and going out with out turning a million ways in a mirror to check if your rolls look ok. This is my new approach and I feel better for it. Only you can help you, as frustrating as it is. Good luck xx

I agree :) I've found that it is working for me better than anything else ever has.

I couldn't do a very low calorie diet because I don't feel 'hungry' anymore, there'd be no hunger pans, I just go straight to feeling nauseous and have cramps because of acid reflux and too much stomach acid. I'm all for losing weight - but why make yourself suffer and have more problems than what you started with? :)
