By my consultant, in class.......................you dont have to have your Healthy Extra if you dont want to!!!

First time I've ever, ever heard that said

I was told that if you miss the occasional Healthy Extra it's fine and you don't need to force it into the day, but missing them regularly is bad not only for your weight loss but also your health.

I quite often don't have a healthy extra on Extra Easy, I can't really eat bread (IBS) or cereal bars, so if I don't have weetabix for breakfast, I don't have any. The free food on EE still covers everything I need and I don't go hungry, I really can't see how it would affect my health. x

Healthy extras are there to provide fibre and calcium. If you are sure you are getting enough from other sources, then maybe you don't need them. A lack of calcium might not affect your health now but it certainly will when you get older.

that's what it says on the sw website. healthy extras are just that - extras - and it will not affect your losses if you dont have them. you can get enough calcium from other foods in your diet too xx

I didn't know you had to have them! Thought it was an extra if you wanted it..

I didn't realise this, I thought it was important that you did have them.

Like Superfree Princess I would be lost without mine!

My consultant told us the same. Which i think is good as i don't use the stuff alot.

It is still a good idea to get used to having them, if only because you get more when you reach target. And the list is so long (over 2000 branded healthy extras) it should be easy to fit them into your menu plan every day. Even things like extra virgin olive oil, flavoured milks etc :)

I wouldn't last till lunchtime without my double hexa and b!! So simple to have syn free days using your healthy extras. Love em!

Sent from my GT-I9300 using MiniMins.com mobile app

There is a huge list of possible healthy extras though, not just bread and cereal bars :)

Yea but im not a big fan of dry cereal (I generally use my hexa for cheese) and cooked fruit. Plus I like nuts to be covered in salt or coverings... I do have ryvitas and crispbreads.

I did find the old alpen light bars in Tesco earlier so grabbed some of those.

I also don't like bread without butter, so I've started having some other combinations: cheese toastie for breakfast (uses both Hexes), or eggy bread with fruit.

It's true you can get what you need from Free foods too: eg fibre from beans, or calcium from yogurts. You do need both of these to lose weight as well as stay healthy. Remember also that if you have too few calories you can find your body rebels a bit but if you're eating plenty and don't feel deprived I don't see the problem.

Do you get more healthy extras at target? How much more?

Oh dont get me wrong - I have my HE's (usually porridge and milk). Its just that everyone usually bangs on about "if you dont have your syns/HE's then you're not following the plan"
